Build 10240 - Any expiry on ACTIVATED versions??

    Hi there

I'm confused now -- if build 10240 is as good (or for most people as near as good) as it will be for the Windows delivered to people after 29 Jul - and it's activated already what is the point in purchasing new licenses.

I've got about 6 versions running -- I just don't envision Ms as a company that dishes out that amount of FREE Software -- so I'd assume these must become de-activated some time in the future.

Anybody got any knowledge or info in that. Previous builds were set to expire on 02 Oct.

There's no expiry as far as I can find out currently on activated 10240 builds.

    Cheers
    jimbo

    :)

  2. upgrade from insider preview to full version..????

Well as the stable build-which would be available to current branch like 10240 and 10586 is very far away-you would have to do a clean Install now if you wish to leave. The current builds have an expiry date and windows would stop booting when the build
    reaches expiry.

  3. Why should Windows 10 user should redownload Windows 10 Version 10 build 10586

You can use the build 10240.It does not have an expiry date.

If you want you can hide the 1511 update using the troubleshooter.

If you stay in the Insider Program it probably doesn't expire. It will automatically be upgrade to any new builds as they are released.

    Hi there

Mine also "Permanently Activated" -- seems we are in luck as I'm sure 6 X Windows 10 pro license would not give me much change out of 700 USD !!!.

Can't believe in the generosity of Ms -- there MUST be a catch somewhere -- I don't regard getting new updates to insider builds as a problem - especially if I can run a FREE W10 build.

    Cheers

There may not be any expiry that we can see, but there is still development code and references to it - Flightsigning certificates and "TH1" for instance - that are referenced in the Registry and the BCD entry for Windows 10.

There are probably other things that are well obscured that can timebomb your installation.

I read somewhere (lost and forgotten) that the expiry for 10240 is the same as other prerelease Versions - 15th October??

Anyway, how many of you have had an apparently permanently activated system suddenly appear as non-genuine in notification. It happens all the time, doesn't it?

All that is required is that the 10240 key -3V66T gets blacklisted, and the license server sticks a notification on your licensing, and a little watermark appears on your desktop.

    Hi there

Anyway interesting things to look out for.

It does seem though Ms wants to keep the Insider preview going so we might get Freebies. Actually in some way it's far cheaper for Ms to have loads of REAL users testing REAL applications on REAL Practical hardware rather than Ms itself having to design tests which can't possibly replicate anything like the actual hardware 100,000's of users are really using.

    Cheers
