Windows 10: build 1803 Alienware

I have an Alienware R17.

After trying to update to 1803, I received an error and that update was not successful.

I later became aware that build 1803 is not yet compatible with Alienware R17.

In fact, Microsoft have blocked some Alienware units from receiving the update to 1803.

That being said, every time I shut down my laptop I get the message to "update and shutdown"

Nothing seems to update when it shuts down.

I have tried using the Microsoft troubleshooter tools etc, that tells me errors were found and were fixed. However, I still get the update message when shutting down.

When I go to settings and then update, there is nil info as to what version I have, just animated dots like it's searching for an update, it can do that for hours.

Any suggestions on how to stop win 10 from trying to update and get rid of the update message when shutting down please?

I have also tried a program on Major Geeks to stop windows from updating, still does it though! *Mad

KB4093105, precursor for build upgrade to 1803?

The CU we got today seems to fix some of the problems listed in the Pinned problems. But is this CU all we will get this week or just a precursor for the 1803 build upgrade tomorrow, April 24th?

This CU does have a long list of fixes but I suppose will find out the answer tomorrow. I have seen talk about the new build being delayed again. I certainly hope that is not the case.

Thanks for the links - incredibly helpful info! I went with the Stop Updates 10 and it did indeed stop 1803 from installing!

I know there can be trouble with hardware as old as mine in regard to updating... but as always I really appreciate having the ability to run the latest OS without being forced to purchase newer hardware. Hopefully they will figure out the driver issues
with Alienware and 1803 so I can eventually update.
