  1. Build 1903 - System Restore option greyed-out / System protection off after feature update

I'm a technician from a local MSP serving hundreds of different customers and I've recently found that many of the workstations don't have system protection on after they update to 1903.

I first found out about this recently when I was running a feature update on one workstation and creating a restore point before rebooting.

Once 1903 was installed, going to System Properties I noticed this change.

Realising this, I thought to check my own system as I updated to 1903 earlier this year with the Windows Update assistant tool, my system protection is also switched off on my local drive.

I've checked with all my colleagues PC's and they all have the same.

Is there any known reason for this?

    :)

Is There a Way To Protect System Restore?

So I just got off trying to fix my dad's computer, for the 2nd time in a few months, because it has some kind of malware or trojan on it. The first thing I always go to to fix his system is system restore because he doesn't make many changes, if any at all, to windows, software, or basically anything system restore restores other than updating windows. But the last few times he's had various problems system restore, with either has it's restore points being deleted or restore won't even start up. So basically I really need help finding a way to either password protect system restore (preferably for free), get a 3rd restore program that won't get disabled by this malware crap, or any other alternative. I really appreciate any help you can give me because I've had this happen to a few computers that have come my way to fix and i wish there where a way to stop it.

Edit: Just found a program call Settings Lock (Download Settings Lock 2.7.0 Free trial - Password lock Windows settings and functions) that I tested and it did successfully stop me from turning off system restore or changing it--but it's $25 and i'm not sure if restore could be turned off another other than my gui interface with that program so i'm still hoping to find something better or at least hear some more info about it.

    SYSTEM RESTORE

    Hello Angel,

Windows 10 may have encountered a system conflict when it tried to perform a system restore. For us to better assist you on performing a system restore, kindly answer the following questions:

    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • What is the exact error message are you getting? If possible can you send us a screenshot using the attach photo feature on your reply.
    • What is the current build and version of your Windows 10? To check type in
winver on the search bar and press Enter.

Meanwhile, for a walkthrough on how to perform a system restore, kindly follow the steps on this

    article
and see the section that says Restore from a system restore point.
On another note, we also suggest that you check the Windows Defender settings and lower down the security if it is on high security. This can also be another issue why it is preventing an update to be installed.

We'll be waiting for your reply.
