    Hey everyone,


    Today i've build a new pc, logged into my Microsoft account, synced my onedrive etc. However I just now got a popup that windows isn't activated. As far as I know, a windows 10 license is linked to my Microsoft account.

    so far I've tried the troubleshoot steps. Running the troubleshoot tool in Activation and trying to manage my Microsoft account in Email & accounts which didn't work. Instead I got an error: Something went wrong We're sorry, but we weren't able to do that.

    Anyone know anything else to try?

    Activation says linked to your Microsoft account, how do you sell it?

    No need to create any user accounts.

    Step 1.) Clean install Windows 10, the same edition you are currently using and which is digitally licensed. Be sure to delete all existing partitions and install to unallocated space!

    Step 2.) When you arrive to region selection screen, press SHIFT + F10 (press and hold SHIFT key, press F10 key and release both keys). This will open Command Prompt:


    Build a new pc, now windows won't activate through my microsoft account. [​IMG]


    Step 3.) Enter following command and press Enter to shut down PC:

    shutdown -s -t 0 -f

    That's it. PC will be shut down, when the new owner will power on it first time it will be like a first boot of a new computer, letting new owner to select region and keyboard, set up user account and select privacy options.

    Identifying PC's from Digital Activation in microsoft account

    If OP clean installs on new PC, name does change. OP will need to do it by elimination ie eliminate names of all current pcs from list in online MS account, so OP can work out which pc name is one of failed mobo.

    If OP uses same hard drive and does not reinstall, this is not an issue.
