    Hello all,


    I am intending to build a new computer from scratch and I need to be sure if I need to purchase a new licence or not.


    I originally purchased Windows 7 (retail), then upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and finally upgraded to Windows 10 Pro. Is my current licence transferable to the new machine when it is ready.


    This may be a simple question but I find it rather difficult to keep up with the rules.

    Building a new computer

    If the Windows 8.1 came with a purchased computer rather than purchased separately (a retail version), then no it is not transferable to a new computer. It is tied to the computer it came with and so is the Windows 10 upgrade.

    You must purchase a new Windows 10 licence.

    is it possible to hand build a motherboard?

    Might I suggest you simply build a computer, making notes and taking pictures step by step. Most people (probably including your teacher) have no idea even where to start building a computer. You'll do fine, and if you get stuck we're here to help ya out! *Toast :toast:
