  1. Building new PC giving current PC to wife - Windows license questions.

I'm about to build a new gaming PC for myself and my wife will be taking over my current PC. As part of my new build I purchased a fresh Windows 10 home retail license/digital download and was curious as to the best way to handle my situation as far as Windows is concerned.

What I was thinking... please correct me if wrong or there is a better way:

    1. Build new PC and install Windows 10 home via USB drive made from the official installer.
    2. Use activation key from this new Windows 10 home purchase on new PC .
    3. Reset current PC via: Start > Settings > Update and Security > Recovery.
    4. Remove my current PC from my devices via my Microsoft Account online.
    5. Have my wife create a Microsoft account and log in to current PC to take ownership.

Is this the best practice for my situation?

On my current PC I see via: Start > Settings > Update and Security > Activation that, "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account". Does this mean I dont need to use the license I just purchased on my new PC build? Will the activation/key for my current build that will go to my wife remain with that machine?

    Thanks in advance all!

    :)

    Selling PC with Windows license

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to sell a PC to my brother and I want the Windows license to go with it. I have all the parts for a replacement PC that I will build in a few days and for that I will buy a new Windows license. I guess the
    questions I have are:

    1. How do I transfer a Windows license to another person, or is that possible with current licensing rules? The hardware that the license runs on would be the same, just a different person. I don't know if he has a Microsoft account, but we can set one up
if necessary. This license was originally bought as Windows 7 and then converted to a Windows 10 license. I don't remember if it was an OEM or retail copy or if that is important.
    2. Since I'm building another PC which will need a Windows license, would it just be easier to transfer the license I currently own to the new PC and buy a new license for my brother? In that case, the license would stay with the same person (me) and the same
Microsoft account, but will run on all new hardware.

  3. Activating digital license on new PC Build

I am waiting on new hardware to arrive for my second PC build. I have a digital license with my MS account that was bought with my current/older PC. Will I also be able to use it on the new build and my older PC or pay for again? The new one will be my
gaming PC and the older one will be demoted to the living room. Thanks

Windows 10 License question - New PC and old computer still exists.

    Hi Microsoft Community!

I'm in the process of assembling a new PC and am going to give the old PC to my younger brother. I want to transfer my existing license to the new computer and if possible "de-license" the old one. These are the particulars:

    • My Windows 10 license was purchased on the Microsoft website and originally activated with a product key.
    • I still have this product key.
    • I have since formatted the PC and after re-installing Windows 10 the activation is now with a digital license.
    • I prefer using local accounts on my PC and thus haven't created a Microsoft account enabled user.

My question is how to best go about transferring the license? Can I just format the old PC and activate my license on the new PC with the product key? If I do that will I get a problem when my brother installs Windows on the old computer again, since it
    now has a digital license?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
