Windows 10: Built a new PC and having activation problems

I recently built a new pc and was feeling great. I had an old windows 10 install disc so installed windows using that. The product key for that disc had been previously used so the activate windows message appeared in the bottom right corner of my monitor.


I continued using the new pc for about a week before buying a windows 10 home activation key directly from windows. I even have the email they sent to prove it.

The problem is that the key that I was sent directly from windows is giving me the error code: 0xC004C008.
It recommends I run the trouble shooter, but all that does is tell me the key has already been used on another device. But it can't have been, I got it directly from the Microsoft website.

Now I am out of pocket £120 for a key that supposedly doesn't work.



Any help fixing the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Activation of Windows 10 on new PC

I've recently built a new computer and am trying to activate Windows 10 on it. I have a digital licence that's tied to my Microsoft account, but when I try to go through the activation steps via the "My hardware recently changed" option, it doesn't show
my new computer on the list, though it does show the old one I'm trying to transfer the licence from. I have signed in on both with the same Microsoft account, and both are listed as devices connected to my account. I've tried signing out of my Microsoft account
and back in on both of them, to no effect. It was a free upgrade from Windows 7, but I made sure to activate it to tie it to my account.

 

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
