built in web camera and mic not working

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-C5379 laptop running Windows 10. It had Windows 10 when I bought it new.

My built-in camera and mic have stopped working. They had worked not too long ago. I don't remember exactly, but I would say about 6 months. Can anyone help me fix this?

Here is some info about what I have done so far:

I have checked privacy settings. I am allowing my apps to access both camera and mic.

I have run an advanced scan in Widows Defender.

I cannot even locate a driver on the Toshiba website for this model laptop. So, not sure about that.

I've also tried this fix from Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8bVq4Kv4ms

I have tried to update the driver. I had trouble finding the camera in Device Manager. But I did find it after going to View, Show Hidden Devices. Here is the device status there:

Here are my driver options as well:

When I try the Windows camera app I get this error message:

  2. Built in mic not working

    Hi Ravindran,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community, we appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience you are facing with accessing in-built mic on your device, we will help with this issue.

Step 1: Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
    and check.

Hardware and Devices troubleshooter checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    • Click on Start; in the start search type
      Troubleshooter and hit Enter.
    • In the left pane, click on View all
      and select Hardware and Devices.
    • Click on Advanced and then click on
      Run as Administrator.
    • Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the troubleshooting process.

Step 2: Uninstall and Update the driver.

This issue might have also occurred due to corrupted drivers hence, I suggest you to uninstall the existing driver and update it.

    Steps:

    • Right click on the Start button from the desktop and select
      Device Manager.
    • Expand Audio inputs and outputs, right click on
High Definition Audio Device and click on Uninstall.
    • Restart and Windows will re-install the
      IDT High Definition Audio driver
      .
    • If it works fine otherwise try to search for the drivers with the help of model number of your computer from the Manufacturer’s website and install them.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of this issue for further assistance.

  3. Web Camera is not working

    Hello

I assume by your comment "black screen appears in video call", you are experiencing problems in other camera apps as well, possibly Skype. If your camera isn't working in any applications this is indicative of a camera driver issue. Please try the steps
listed here to resolve your issue:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Windows-10/fix-windows-camera-app-problems-with-usb-web-cameras

If your issue isn't resolved after running the steps, please report back with your camera make and model and the driver information you aquire from step 3.

    Thanks,

    Tom

Windows Phone Camera App: Recording Video with headset microphone instead of internal mic

    Hello,

The phone only uses the built-in mic when recording videos on the Camera app. If you want to use an external mic when recording videos, it is best that you send this suggestion through Feedback Hub so our developers can work on it. To send a feedback on
your phone, you can follow the steps below:

    • Go to All apps, search for the Feedback
      Hub app.
    • Open the Menu icon at the top left side.
    • Select Feedback, then tap the Add button
(+) at the top right side.
    • Select Suggestion and provide the details needed in the box.
    • Select the right category and then submit.

Let us know if you have any concerns.
