Windows 10: buying win 10

Hi,

I consider buying Win 10 Home FPP(not upgrading from older Win) with licence for one computer.


If understand licencing correctly when remove I win10 from one computer(in case of retail lic.) I should be able to install it on another one.


1. Can this be done without calling to Microsoft and explaining them all the details?


2. How many times can this be done without getting into any troubles like expiring licence or calling MS?

In short I want to buy win10 and want to know how many times I can upgrade motherboard or buy a new computer without windows getting me any troubles.

You would need to buy it. Win 10 is an upgrade to a qualifying and existing OS so you could always buy win 7 or 8 and then update but if your are going to buy anything it should be win 10

 

Can you get Windows 10 on an unactivated W8?

If you purchased a win 8.1 key and installed it on a working machine you could then upgrade to win 10 but why would you want to buy win 8 when for the same price you could buy win 10 and go directly to it

 

The OEM license is tied to the computer it was first installed on. The Retail license can be installed on a Replacement computer, I take that to mean 1 after the original computer has died. Win10 can be reinstalled on the same computer and may or may not be an issue in changing hardware depending upon what that entails, some folks have changed a motherboard without issue but others had to contact Microsoft to get reactivated. I am routinely running Win10 on computers I've built but I do have Win10 on a couple of brand-name computers that I Upgraded over the OEM version, no problems yet but they are not in regular use.

 

You can transfer the retail Windows 10 as many times as you like. After a certain number of new activations within a certain time frame (and we don't know exactly what that is) the product key will get blocked from automatic online activation.

If the product key gets blocked, then you call the Microsoft activation number, punch in the installation ID, tell the computer voice that copy of Windows is on only one computer, and you will get the activation code in return.
