Windows 10: Bypass Bitlocker check for Iron Keys

I have configured a Group Policy to force removable drive encryption via BitLocker. This works perfectly until someone uses and Iron Key encrypted drive. Then Bitlocker tries to Bitlock the already encrypted Iron Key drive. Ideally, we would like to force users to either Bitlock removable drives or use Iron Keys which have their own drive encryption. Is there a way to do this? Is there a way to bypass the Bitlocker check for Iron Keys when they are plugged into the PCs?

Bitlocker bypass?

A Bitlocker recovery key is not something that you yourself setup. It is setup by Windows 11, when Windows 11 installs for the first time. At the conclusion of the installation, Windows shows you the Bitlocker recovery key and suggests that you make a backup copy.

Windows also stores a copy of your Bitlocker recovery key in the Microsoft account that was used to originally install Windows.

If you find that there is no Bitlocker recovery key in the Microsoft account that was used to originally setup Windows, and you do not have a backup copy of the Bitlocker recovery key, there is nothing more that you or Microsoft can do to help, unfortunately. You will never be able to regain access to the contents of your hard drive.

We understand your concern as you are unable to get the BitLocker recovery key to unlock your PC from BitLocker encryption. We appreciate your effort in troubleshooting the issue and providing us a detailed information with screenshot.



We checked this for you and ideally, in Windows 10 Home BitLocker doesn’t come by default. It could be possible that the BitLocker got enabled during some updates, either Windows update or PC manufacturer update.



We were researching on this and the recovery key will be saved either on Microsoft account or in OneDrive location. Upon checking the screenshots and the details that you have provided, it’s really strange that the recovery key is not showing up in
the Microsoft account even it shows ON.



Meanwhile, we would suggest you to disable the secure boot from the BIOS and check if you are able to bypass the BitLocker. Please refer the steps in this article:
