C:\Documents and Settings path under Windows 10 machine.

Hello,I have a Windows 10 laptop. And my laptop is having "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data". Actually Microsoft claims they have stopped "C:\Documents and Settings" path. But in my machine, all the software, particularly National instrument is are getting installed in this path. And there is one more observation, the documents and settings path is interlinked with path "C:\Program Data\National Instruments". Because National instrument NI software have duplicate copies in both path. And also, if I rename a any subfolder under "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Applicat

Windows XP - "My Computer" not displaying "My Documents" folder

    No policies are active

In "My Computer", with "Arange Icons by Type", and "Show in Groups" selected, "My Documents" does not show up in the "Files stored on this computer" section for any user. For a limited acount, only "Shared Documents" appears, but for an administrative user, there is one Icon for each user's Documents directory. It may be that when I was using my account as an administrative user, I never noticed it because I was able to select the appropriate user's directory.

"My Documents" does appear in the "Other Places" Section for all users.

(Hmmmm.... I just noticed that if I go "Up" from "My Computer" I can see "My Documents" in the Desktop view. Maybe that is the one I have been expecting to see?)

The registry paths are all fine. I think it's probably me expecting too much from Microsoft.

  3. documents and settings in windows 10?

    Since

    • "C:\Documents and Settings" folder no longer exists on Windows 10
    • Windows 10 has an inaccessible shortcut named "C:\Documents and Settings folder" which returns "Access Denied"

If we can find a way, can we delete the now defunct "C:\Documents and Settings" folders/shortcut?

  4. C:\Documents and Settings path under Windows 10 machine.

Documents and settings folder in Windows 10 is not present in C:/ drive

To hopefully clarify the previous response. The 'C:\Users' folder is the equivalent of C:\Documents and Settings on older systems.

Hidden away in the file system are junction points for backwards compatibility. At a Command Prompt, typing 'dir /al /s will reveal them. 'Documents and Settings' is one of these, which is why you were told it already exists.

What this means is that assuming your old username was 'Bob' & the path to your user folder was 'C:\Documetns and Settings\Bob' then as long as your new user account is named Bob, even though your Windows 10 path is 'C:\Users\Bob', a program looking for
'C:\Documents and Settings\Bob' will be accessing the same files or folders.
