    I own a high end laptop that, unfortunately, only has a 250 GByte SSD and it is now becoming rather full 179 GB out of 237 GB used. I have recently found that the total sum of the files stored on the disk is about 40 GBytes less than the 179 GBytes given in the C: drive properties by File Explorer. I have checked this in many different ways:Highlighting all folders and files, including hidden files, and right clicking properties - this gives 141 GBytes usedWinDirStat show 137.9 GBytes used and 41.5 GBytes unknown spaceI have checked this using PowerShell and Treesize Free and this give app

    Unaccounted for Dell Laptop Hard Drive space on C: drive SSD

    I have a Dell Inspiron 3793 running Windows 10 Home version 1909. The C drive is a 256GB SSD, and I am noticing a bunch of unaccounted for hard drive space (see pictures below). Drive properties show 163GB used, but when I select all the files they only total to 94GB (69GB unaccounted for). If you look on the WinDirStat listing below, there is a 32GB file labelled "<Unknown>". What is going on? What can I do to free up the space?

    I did the drive properties disk cleanup along with cleaning up system files. Here is TreeSize listing:

    You need to expand the tree for your Windows folder, it shouldn't be as large as the 39GB TreeSize shows yours to be. Typically after cleaning up system files I'd expect it to be less than 20GB, as mine is....
