Windows 10: C:\Windows.old created even if I did not upgrade to any new Windows version?

Hi, I do not understand why today after doing a Windows update it created a C:\Windows.old.I did not choose any optional update when I started the windows update. I see a feature that got installed in my update history:Aren't feature updates done by choice only? If yes, it was not very clear on screen even it was listing what updates to be done. I tried to see what this update is about and it only brought up a window about "Discover tips online". Clicking it the displayed info seam to be for a pre-Windows 11 upgrade info because it says starting Oct-2025 Windows-10 will no longer receive u

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.

• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Windows 8, full or upgrade required?

I'm about to build a new system, and I need it to be windows 8 Pro (I have to gain mastery of it for my line of work...) and I'm wondering if the full OEM version is necessary for my new build or if it's possible to install the upgrade version somehow via a clean install without having issues down the road.

While I'm not suggesting pirating a copy of windows, I would like to save some money and buy a cheaper legit version of the OS if possible...that being said I don't have an old windows 7 to "upgrade" (well I do, I have a windows 7 enterprise, but I'm not giving that up as I need it elsewhere...)

Any tips on this appreciated. Am I stuck paying the $100 more for the full version in this scenario?
