    A C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe screen popped up stating "an installed file with the same ID was found. Replace it? Yes/No:"I have Windows 11. I'm not sure if this is a virus or If I should exit out as it is slowing down my computer. Can you please help?

    C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe

    On Aug 24 when I booted my laptop I got this pop up (see attached). I just clicked on OK and ignored it.

    However since then I've gotten several pop ups re this item and in Googling it, I find it could possibly be some kind of malware. This is what I found:
    "Please note that this infection is an Alternate Data Stream file attached to the legitimate C:\Windows\System32\ folder. Do not delete the C:\Windows\System32\ folder as Windows will not operate correctly without it. "

    Do I need to deal with this, and if so, how?

    C windows installer folder - Delete?

    He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe screen popped up stating "an installed file with the same ID... ;)
    Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

    Like:
    First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
    Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
    Then type this in command mode as admin
    mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

    Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
