Does anyone still use Cacheman? I have used it since Win XP, but not really sure it does anything now in Win 10. It does work great for removing shortcut arrows, but not sure about the other performance or usability options.

Cacheman has some useful features I suppose but I have some serious concerns. Claims regarding optimizing the system cache, optimizing memory, and other performance optimizations raise red flags for me. There are programs all over the Internet that make such claims and I have tried some of them. My experiences have been less than favorable. I have not tried Cacheman and have no intentions of doing so.

I have read enough about this to know these things are very hard to get right, and very easy to get wrong. Has Cacheman somehow beat the odds and got it right? Maybe, but I doubt it. Microsoft has devoted an enormous amount of effort into research, development, and testing to maximize performance. There are those who claim that Microsoft doesn't care about performance but I think it more realistic to say they have in some ways become obsessed by it. Can some third party developer with a fraction of Microsoft's resources do better? I have good reason to be skeptical.

I would not use Cacheman, even if it were free.

Thats one that I've not used for a long time! I personally dont see a use for it any more with fast modern hardware and I would include OPs own machine in that category.

Cacheman was a life-saver for me, it allowed me to play games, which otherwise would not run.
It sure looks heavily outdated now, I am sure, there are better alternatives available, even for free.

  5. It has worked great for me for numerous years. It might be outdated for my machine though now. Is there a reg entry I can use to remove short cut arrows?

    Disregard I found the process.
