Windows 10: Calculator to be active window when opened with hotkey

Mostly a pet peeve but hear me out.


So recently I bought myself the Microsoft Natural keyboard 4000 and I love it. One of the things I like is that it has a calculator hotkey right by the numpad. The issue is, when I use it, it always open the calculator in the back, never as the active window as if you click the calculator icon i.e on the taskbar.


Meaning, I need to then click it on the task bar or shuffle to it using alt+tab.


Is there something basic I'm overlooking? I know I can open it once and have it always on top, but that not really part of my flow. I want to press the hotkey and immediately press the numbers on the numpad to do calculations. And it being a Microsoft Keyboard too, the irony is a little annoying not being able to do that.


Also: Pressing the hotkey opens a new calculator, and not selecting the already open calculator.

Calculator Hotkey

I just got a new PC, and it's my first time using Windows 10. Is it possible to turn off the hotkey option that opens the calculator? I've been trying to find the exact hotkey that opens it, but couldn't find anything in search. It's a button on my
gaming keyboard, which is supposed to mimic the tab key, but opens the calculator.

 

Assign hotkey to calculator

We're talking about how to simply get the same hotkey-related behaviour as is possible for any other application.

• So why is calculator different?
• Why does it not have properties like all other shortcuts?
• Why do we get a new instance when we *make* a shortcut to it and use its hotkey?
• How the flipping crickey did this get past testing, as assigning a hotkey to calculator is a pretty sane thing to do for a power user.

Assign hotkey to calculator

Workaround: make a shortcut (another one) to the Calculator, put it anywhere in the start menu, and assign it the hotkey.

THIS IS A WORKAROUND, NOT A SOLUTION.

A side-effect is that Windows will happily start multiple instances, whereas the calculator from Windows 7 would only let itself be started once when started by hitting its hotkey. Any subsequent starts by hotkey will just activate the running instance.
That part is still missing from this workaround.

SO THIS STILL NEEDS TO BE FIXED PROPER.

@Microsoft: when can you have this fixed?
