Windows 10: Calendar invite ical attachments default open app

I have a surface with Windows 10, and I am utilizing the mail app (not Outlook) for my email. Similarly, I am using the Windows calendar as my calendar, and not Outlook. I am using a gmail account, which I have linked to my Windows mail.


When I receive a calendar invite from someone else into my email account, and I try to open it in the mail app, the calendar entry opens in Outlook, rather than the Windows calendar app. As a result, I am having to manually add these events into my Windows calendar rather than them automatically loading when I am invited via email to an event/meeting.


How can I change the default setting for calendar invite email attachments to make sure they open in the Windows calendar instead of the Outlook calendar? I can't find this anywhere in settings, or default app changes, etc.

Surface Pro 3 cannot open attachments sent in an calendar invite

I'm currently using the mail and calendar app that came with the Surface Pro 3. My email and calendar are synced through exchange. When calendar invites come in and have an attachment (i.e word document, or pdf file), these attachment show up as generic
icon in the calendar invite and cannot be opened. Is there a way to open the attachments that come in on a calendar invite?

 

Ical invites received as email

I know Mac user I know keeps sending me meeting invites which I cannot add to my calendar as they are received as an email.

I am using Google Apps as my email provider but have also tested it in Windows Live Mail. Same issue.

outlook on my HTC Mozart WP7 Phone recognizes that the attachment as an ics file. The email invite seems to have been sent from iCal. Is this a bug?

 

Invite someone in Calendar not appearing

I suggest you to follow the steps provided below and check if it helps.

• Open the Calendar app.
• Place the cursor on the event created.
• Click on more details button.
• In invite someone box, type the name or Email address of the person you want to invite.
• Click on send invite.
