I think they are playing it safe with their models....My Samsung Series 7 slate ( not listed ) installed fine once I cleaned up enough space, I deleted all non essential programs and uninstalled AVG. Works like a dream.

Samsung RV511 (not listed) have the same issue as almost everyone in this thread even after updating the system BIOS to the latest one (used Samsung System BIOS Update software).
It's a shame that somewhat powerful systems like the RV511 (Intel Pentium P6200, 3 GB. of DDR3 RAM) can't run Windows 10 because of such a stupid bug after I installed it on very low profile/old computers like netbooks with Intel Atom N455 and AMD's AM2 Sempron processors. ú_ù

I sympathise with your frustration over not being able to run Windows 10 on your RV511. As stated elsewhere on this forum, the problem is that the BIOS & Windows 10 are not compatible with the Broadcom WLAN card supplied inside the laptop. Removing or replacing the Broadcom WLAN card with another brand (I've used Realtek) will enable Windows 10 to run. Normally, Samsung would be under pressure to fix this, but since they don't do laptops any more, why should they care? Whether they fix it or not makes no difference to their laptop sales figures - they will still be zero.

I've found this thread to be very useful whilst I've been trying to upgrade to Windows 10 so I thought I'd share my (slightly positive) experience with everyone.

I have a Samsung RV711 which was running Windows 8.1. Like everyone else, I spent hours trying to install Windows 10. Using the Get Windows app I got a 80070714 error. I uninstalled antivirus and Chrome and made more space but nothing helped. I then tried the DVD and USB install methods with no luck. I even used the Media Creation Tool to try an upgrade and that just gave me a set of different problems! Finally I went back to the Get WIndows app and managed a partial install, maybe because I had I had freed more space. But is still wouldn't boot, getting stuck on the initial blue logo at the start.

After reading this thread I thought I'd go all out and try to install without the WLAN card connected. I followed this guide on You Tube and finally completed the install. My problems weren't over unfortunately as a reboot caused the same stuck blue logo again. I was just about to order a new WLAN card when I looked at this You Tube video and so I tried a few reboots and successfully booted into Windows 10. What's more the Broadcom WLAN card worked and I had Internet access. (I'm currently writing this on my Samsung Windows 10 laptop!)

So having the laptop 'fixed' for 24 hours, I've found that the reboot is a bit temperamental. It doesn't always work and I have to keep trying to reboot to get it to work. I'm waiting to see if Microsoft (or Samsung!!) comes up with a fix, or I might go and buy a new WLAN card. They are not expensive.

I hope this helps someone to get Windows 10 installed in their Samsung laptop. and thanks to everyone who contributed before me and helped me get up and running - sort of!

I know this is an old thread now but I wondered if anyone has had any experience of upgrading their Samsung laptops after the recent Windows 10 update. My RV711 is (mostly) fine but I would like to update my Mum's RV511, but I'm not going to do it unless I know someone (Microsoft or Samsung) has fixed the issue with the Broadcom WLAN driver. It would be nice of they have!

  9. Just check samsungs website for the driver. If it has it, you should be good to go.

Samsung haven't updated the driver for this - that's the problem. The Get Windows 10 app thinks everything is OK but then the upgrade fails. This thread is full of all the problems people have had with it.

I've tried all the ideas mentioned here for upgrading my Samsung RV511 to windows 10. Looks like I'll have to change the wifi card. Could anyone please let me know a replacement card that'll work.
I've heard that an Atheros Mini Wifi Card will work but does anyone know the part number.
    Thanks.

I bought a "Atheros AR5B22 Dual Band with Bluetooth 4.0 Wireless WiFi MINI PCI-E Card" from eBay. The WiFi works fine though I haven't been able to get the Bluetooth working yet. Bluetooth always seems to be the hardest part with replacement cards. I don't know if it will never work or I just haven't tried the right driver yet.

Just to be sure, as I own a Samsung RV711 (which I really like), this issue only occurs for machines w/ the Broadcom wifi device? Mine has an Atheros AR9285 card, which makes me think I may have dodged a bullet here. I just started to download the Win10 upgrade from 7 and had the bright idea to check and see if there are any compatibility issues BEFORE I start the update.

Yes, you should be fine with your Atheros. I had a Broadcom card and eventually had to replace it with a Atheros AR5B22. WiFi is fine, though I haven't managed to get Bluetooth working yet.

When trying to upgrade with my Broadcom card, I never got to the 'dangerous' part of copying files over - it failed before this. So I'd suggest giving it a go as it shouldn't trash your machine.
