Windows 10: camera does not take picture or video

The camera is not working, only seeing a black screen when app is open...

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

 

Built In Camera Takes pictures but no video

My built-in webcam/camera was working fine last week when I used it last. When I went to use it today, it would take pictures but not video which is what I need. Some solutions had to do with finding the camera on the control panel and device manager,
but I couldn't find it under either. I know it's on my computer, as I can bring it up, but I can't do any of the suggested changes or use the video feature.

Yes, the option will ask for a new location where you want to save the pictures and videos. If you do not have any other drive on the computer, you may want to refer the steps mentioned below and see if that helps:



Method 1: Provide permissions to Camera Roll folder



You can try providing permissions to the Camera Roll folder and see if that helps. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + E, to open
   File Explorer.
   
2. Click on the Pictures folder on the left pane.
   
3. Right click on the Camera Roll folder and select
   Properties.
   
4. Now, click on Security tab, and select
   Edit.
   
5. Click on your user account under Group or user names.
   
6. Select the checkbox for Full control under
   Permissions for.
   
7. Click on Apply and OK.
   

If method 1 didn’t work, refer the method below.



Method 2: Reset Camera App



If providing permissions to the Camera Roll app didn’t help, I would suggest you to remove the Camera Roll folder and create a new one. Refer the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + E, to open
   File Explorer.
   
2. Click on the Pictures folder on the left pane.
   
3. Right click on the Camera Roll folder and select
   Delete.
   
4. After deleting the folder, right click on empty space, click on
   New and select New Folder.
   
5. Rename the newly created folder as Camera Roll.
   
6. Now, press Windows key + I, to open
   Settings.
   
7. Click on Apps, and select
   Apps & features from the left pane.
   
8. Look for Camera app, click on it and select
   Advanced options.
   
9. Scroll down and click on Reset.
