Windows 10: Camera not working, camera app shows gray screen with a tab and lock

I have an exam that needs to be proctored, so I need help as soon as possible!I was trying to take my exam and check my camera to see if it was working and it was not. The only thing that showed up was what was in header. The light for the camera is on, the privacy switch is to the correct side, and the camera f button has also been pressed and it won't do anything.I have gone through ALL of the privacy settings, and they are all switched on. It can't be my anti virus because I don't pay for it, and get the free version, which doesn't include camera and mic settings. I don't see why the firewa

Success in resetting Store; that produced a download of the Windows camera, despite seeing error message again, download proceeded. Screen shows MS app for Windows camera and indicates downloaded. (Camera now listed in app list.) But when Launch was selected,
no action after screen with camera icon. Eventually message appeared " something went wrong: here is message code if needed: 0x400F4271>MediaCaptureFailedEvent>0xC00D3704. We seem to be moving ahead a step at a time. Next suggestion?

If you have the camera connected to the computer, I would suggest that you disconnect the camera and then try to open the Camera app.



If the camera app opens, follow the steps below:

• Press “Windows key + C” from your keyboard to open “Charms bar”.
• Select “Settings” option.
• Select “Permissions” option.
• Turn on “Allow this app to access your: Webcam and Microphone” option.
• Lose the app by pressing “Alt key + F4” from your keyboard.
• Reopen the Camera app.
• Connect your camera and then check how this app works.

camera doesn't work in camera app but does in other software

I don't know how you unistalled the Camera app but just a suggestion here. PowerShell (admin) and run get-appxpackage *camera* | remove-appxpackage Then reboot and reinstall from Store. If that fails then use something like Geek Uninstaller free to remove it and reboot and reinstall.

Edit -make an image to fall back on before the changes.
