Can 1 computer show up as 2 different computers on a network?

We have an xfinity router and an orbi, both secured networks. There are times that I see 2 laptops with different ip addresses and different mac addresses logged onto xfinity when there is only 1 that I am aware of supposed to be connected. Other times it shows one of the devices is on line and the other off line, and still other times where 1 is connected to xfinity and the other to orbi. Is there any way 1 computer would present as 2 different ones?

    :)

    2 computers 2 different networks

I have 2 HP Desktops that I cannot get to communicate with each other. Did not have this problem before the "Automatic" Windows 10 upgrade. The machines are identical except that 1 has Windows 10 Pro and the other Windows 10 Home. I can see both computers on the network, but cannot access either. They are both connected by Ethernet, no wireless. The 10 home cannot join the homegroup. The workgroups are the same. The thing I find odd is the network names. The pro shows:
    Network 2
    Private Network

    and home
    Network
    Private Network.

One other thing I noticed, in the home under the network tree I only see computer 1 and computer 2,
on the pro I see computer 1, computer 1, computer 2, computer 2.

At wits end on trying to network them, have tried everything.

  3. 1 router 2 computers 2 networks glitch

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience caused. I will be glad to assist you with this.

When you set up a PC, a HomeGroup is created automatically. If a HomeGroup already exists on your home network, you can join it.

You mentioned that both the computes are in different networks. This could be the reason why you are unable to create the homegroup. Therefore, I would suggest you to first try to add both the PC to a single network and try creating the homegroup again.

Refer the steps given below to add a device or PC to a network and check if it helps.

-Plug the PC into a hub, switch, or router and then turn it on. (If your home has Ethernet wiring and you have a jack in the room where the PC is, you can plug the PC into the Ethernet jack instead.)

To make sure you added the PC, follow these steps:

    • Sign in to any PC on the network.

    • Press Windows key + E to open file explorer and click "network".

    • Make sure you see icons for the PC you added and for the other PCs and devices that are part of the network.

    Let us know the result.

  4. Can 1 computer show up as 2 different computers on a network?

Family Safety shows 2 computers for 1 computer

I have 2 computers in my household. 1 for myself, and 1 for my grandson. After the last windows 10 update, family safety is showing 3 computers. 2 on my grandsons account. Both share the same computer number. Since this happened, the time restrictions have
stopped working. I attempted to delete one of the computers from the list, but it tells me I have to refresh the computer. I'm not going to wipe a computer just becouse windows update screwed something up. How can I fix this problem?
