Windows 10: Can a 60hz display laptop output 160hz onto an external 160hz monitor through?

Im thinking about buying a laptop and to connect it to an external monitor. The laptop display is 60hz and the external monitor is 160hz. My questions is will I be able to use the 160hz on the external monitor when its mirroring my 60hz laptop, or will it limit me to 60hz?

If you're trying to use a wired external monitor is it connected to the laptop's HDMI output connector or the mini DisplayPort connector?

If you're using a wired external monitor and don't see any output, right-click on an empty spot on the Desktop and select Screen Resolution -> Detect

In addition, you may need to press the F7 key and select the mode in which the display will function. There are 4 modes:

• Disconnect (or Computer only): display only on the laptop's screen
• Duplicate: the same display on the laptop's screen and the external monitor
• Extend: extends the output so that you can drag things from one screen to the other
• Projector only (or Second Screen Only): displays only on the external monitor

Or are you trying to use wireless (Wi-Di or Miracast)?

 

LCD Monitors and Frame rates: Are you actually seeing 60+ FPS?

Response time is a big factor AFAIK. The 6ms they might list is good for a referesh rate of 160hz (1000/6), but in reality the specs are "grey to grey". What is the real-world equivalent of the refresh rate? I suspect 60hz does even a 4ms monitor justice, but I'm just guessing.

There is another way: but it requires 2 graphics cards not in SLi 1 for each monitor set to the 160hz & 60hz, but that is pricey for a second 1070.
