Windows 10: can a backup of windows on a ntfs drive be recovered on a gpt drive

i am having to upgrade my system for windows 11 to be able to be run. I have a backup of my drives which ar all NTFS, the new drive for windows 11 will be GPT. Will my backup recover on the GPT drive? i have both Norton and AOMEI backups.

Ok. I am going to try this again.

I was using a laptop which ran XP x86 (or x32 or 32-bit)

I used 2TB Seagate disk drives. They were all set to be MBR->NTFS.

I then bought an 8TB Seagate disk drive which was formatted with GPT. I used Disk Management to delete the partition, reset the disk drive to use MBR and divided up the hard drive into three separate partitions all of which were NTFS.

Everything worked terrifically.

Then I built a Windows 10 box. 64GB memory, 2TB disk drive (using GPT->NTFS)

I then started transfering and checking my disk drives on the new system.

For unknown reasons - Windows 10 mucked up the disk drives. It converted them from MBR to RAW and in some cases from MBR to GPT. Unfortunately, this meant the disk drives could not be read by either the XP system nor the 10 system.

Today, I am presenting two pictures to show what I mean:





Here - you can see the local disk drive (c. Then you can see the D: drive (Backup_2). This is a GPT disk drive. No problems happening there.

Now note the BUSLINK. This disk drive is a GPT drive also.

NOW - Notice Backup-1. The H: disk drive. This drive is NOW a GPT disk drive. It was the MBR->NTFS disk drive that was broken up into Backup-1, Backup-2, and Backup-3. I finally got the drive converted back to MBR, got everything off of the three partitions,
deleted all partitions, converted it to GPT as a single disk drive, and restored everything So now it is ok or at least it works.

NOW - Notice USB Drive G:. This is the latest disk drive that was converted by Windows 10 to some kind of a disk drive. It used to be a 2TB MBR->NTFS disk drive. Now it is just - I have no idea what. I'm looking at it. If I double-click on it I just get:





When I use MiniTool - MiniTool does not even see the hard drive. It sees all of the rest of the hard drives and CD rom, but it doesn't even see the disk drive G:. Disk Management doesn't even SHOW the disk drive. Which is weird because Disk Management is
what finds the disk drive. So the disk drive is there or it isn't.

So now I'm off to find some kind of program that will actually see the disk drive and then reset it back to being an MBR disk drive so I can get my information off of it.

 

Format external backup drive for NTFS

I purchased an external backup drive made by Verbatim. when I try to do a full system backup from Windows 10, I get the message that I can't backup to this drive because it is not formatted for NTFS. How do I format this drive for NTFS?

windows by default does not have HFS and HFS+ based hard drives.
Able to perform retrieval on both HFS and HFS+ based hard drives. and so will not work with windows
