Windows 10: Can a bad battery cause the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen?

My HP Envy x360 has been stuck on the "Preparing Automatic Repair" screen any time I attempt to turn it on. I removed the extra RAM I installed a few years ago and ran the diagnostics like some videos told me to do. The processor, memory, and hard drive passed, but the battery failed. I opened the laptop and found that the battery was ballooned, and needs replacing. Would replacing the battery fix my issue? I tried to factory reset it but could not get the menu to open, by pressing ESC, F11, and F11+shift. Is there another way to open the menu so I can reset it? Is it worth replacing the batte

Black Screen after "preparing automatic repair"

Yesterday, my HP Envy 17 j177nr was working flawlessly. However, today I was experiencing lots of lags and freezes to the point where the laptop is unusable

I decided to power off and on three times to attempt some kind of repair. However, after it says "preparing automatic repair" I ALWAYS get a black screen, no cursor, no nothing. It does NOT move beyond that black screen. It will stay at that black screen all day if I let it.

I tried ALL steps on the internet to fix it, including removing all peripherals including the power cord and battery and holding the power button for 30 second which everybody says that fixes the problem—except it DOES NOT for me. It still goes into "preparing automatic repair" and to that black screen afterwards.

I ran the HP HDD and memory test and all pass with flying colors.

Does anybody know how to fix this?

How long did you leave the "Preparing automatic repair" screen on for? Some times these steps can take some time to carry out and it may need leaving on overnight to complete.

 

Preparing Automatic Repair

My son's Lenovo Ideapad 110-15ACL has been stuck on "Preparing Automatic Repair" for over a week now. I can't followed any steps listed for remedying it because the computer doesn't respond to any instructions, like holding F8 or even booting from a USB, at all. Has anyone ideas or it's time to discard this 5-year old laptop?
