Windows 10: Can a dead battery cause a plugged in tablet to randomly shut down?

HiI recently bought a Toshiba Encore Mini, I've always wanted to mess around with a Windows 8.1 tablet, but it has serious problems. It seemed to be working ok, but I noticed the battery will not charge. It's been at 0% all day, then It just randomly started shutting down. Now it will barely stay on for a few minutes before shutting off. This is causing all kinds of problems with the automatic repair that runs every time it shuts down. Is the dead battery causing this? Or is something more serious wrong with the tablet?Any help would be appreciated.

Laptop randomly shuts down after latest Windows 10 update

Since the latest update of Windows 10 my computer decides to randomly shut down after every couple of minutes. First the screen goes black, then the sounds stops and after quite a while the power also goes down.

Obviously I though of cleaning the fan with a big vacuum, as suggested on My Windows 10 Computer Randomly Shuts Down . However, after doing this, the shutting down goes even quicker. I cannot even properly log-on before the shutdown takes place.

What should be my next step?

Ps. The computer is quited aged (roughly 3 - 4 years). The battery is dead enough such that I always need to have it plugged in an outlet. It might just be "done for" but I'm hoping to revive it for just a little bit more.

To resolve this issue, please follow these steps:

• Unplug Laptop
• Remove the Battery
• Plug in Laptop and turn on the laptop
• Go to Control Panel - Devices and uninstall all instances of Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery
• Shut down Laptop and unplug it
• Insert Battery and plug in the laptop
• Start the Laptop

Toshiba Satellite Dead Battery....Revival ?

Thanks Denis......It's highly unlikely that I will ever use the machine without the power chord being plugged in.......going to try and charge it, as Paul said, for about 12 hours, and if no joy then will remove battery, so as not to cause any further problems as Megahertz suggested....I think it was expecting rather too much from a 14 year old long dead battery.......Another learning curve !!
