  1. Can a old computer game being located in two different locations cause a game not to play?

I have a couple of old Windows 7 computers, and they are used for basic computer gaming not the new high-tech "shoot 'em up" type. They are not connected to the Internet. I have the old Microsoft Train Simulator MSTS game from around 2000. I have 20+ original CD discs which allowed me to install various train routes, rolling stock, and activities. I also had at least 40 "downloaded" routes, trains, and activities in specific files on the computer. For a few years, I enjoyed the games despite the many error messages and problems I experienced, and finally put the game, discs, and files away

Getting Windows 10 to recognize an old app install location

    Hello Luke,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I would like to inform you that you will need to re-install the game as some components of the game might not work properly which can cause the game to crash. However, you can download and install the game/apps from the store on an external drive.

Here are the steps on how you can install program to a different drive from a store.

    • Go to windows settings.
    • Then click on System and then on Storage.
    • Under "Save locations," and on "New apps will save to," select the new drive location.

Once you completed the steps, new apps you download from the Windows Store will now install automatically in the new location.

    Hope it helps.

  3. Changed location of captured video

    Hi,

If you can no longer see the location option on the capture folder, you may restore your Game DVR Captures folder location settings. After restoring the game DVR Captures folder location settings, then you can change your Game DVR Captures folder location
again. To do this, you may follow the steps below:

How to restore Game DVR Captures folder location settings

    • Open File Explorer.
    • Browse to the Captures folder location.
    • Right-click the Captures folder and select Properties.
    • Click the Location tab.
    • Click the Restore Defaults button.
    • Click Apply.
    • Click Yes to recreate the folder in the old location.
    • Click Yes to move the content of the Captures folder to the old location, and wait a few moments.
    • Click OK.

Note: After you've completed the steps, the Captures folder will return with all its content to its default location: C:\Users\%username%\Videos\Captures.

After performing the steps above, try to change the location of your captured video.

Kindly update us with the results.

If you think this was helpful, do not hesitate to "mark it as answer" to help those who are facing the same problem.
