  1. Can an external CAC SMART Card reader affect Windows 10 booting up

    Windows 10 Community.

For months I have been perplexed by my laptop Lenovo T14 booting up early in the morning ~0500 hrs. Working with Microsoft and this forum I have explored numerous options see https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/computer-turns-on-by-itself-windows-10/28b5f8a1-5157-4d8e-b6f6-19cd6df60f09. I now believe the problem maybe connected to my CAC reader. Is it possible by leaving my CAC inserted in an external CAC reader there is a mechanism that would or could cause my laptop to boot-up on it's own? I don't see how but have noticed when the CAC is not left in the reader no issues but if I leave the card in the reader for a day of two the computer will boot-up. Is that even possible?

Windows Security is no longer recognizing my CAC reader (Smart Card reader)

Windows Security seems to have randomly stopped recognizing my CAC reader, this happened early September.

Typically whenever I access a website that needs my CAC (email, DTS, etc), it prompts me to select my name from a list of credentials, which I do. Then a box pops up from Windows Security asking me to select a smart card device, I click the only option
and proceed and that's about it.

Now, though, when windows security prompts me to select a smart card device, there is no option. Instead, it simply says "connect a smart card."

I have tried with three different smart cards, all of which operate on other computers, none on mine. Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media as well as the Device Manager both recognize the CAC reader when plugged in. I've uninstalled the device from device
manager, reinstalled it and also updated the driver from the product's website.

To me, it seems that the computer is still recognizing the reader and the software is there - but Windows Security is somehow blocking the system from accessing/recognizing/allowing the reader.

    Any suggestions?

I'm running Windows 10 and the CAC reader is ActivIdentity's USB Reader v3.0, P/N: ZFG-9820GAC

  3. Windows 10 1909 Update, disabled Military CAC Smart Card Readers

I have an issue with the recent Windows Update 1909. A week ago I had no issues accessing my Military CAC. After a recent Update I could no longer access my CAC.

Both Smart Card readers are listed in Device Manager but ActiveClient does not list any card readers available. I cannot access via iExplorer, Firefox, or Chrome.

CAC Card reader not detecting the card

Hello, I've read several posts with the EXACT same question, but they're not resolved, so I'm starting my own. I'm in the military and use a CAC CARD reader to access websites. After a recent windows update, my computer no longer detects my CAC CARD. The
card reader is fine, but the card itself isn't detecting. I REPEAT, the card reader is fine. (Also, its NOT an SD card. Its a CAC card. On an other post here, a fix was suggested for an SD card. Its not an SD card).

The card reader is detected, I've updated and reinstalled the driver multiple times. I've tried rolling it back. The card reader shows on the computer under Device Manager, it shows on other computers too, and the CAC Card works on other computers. It is
not a problem with the card reader, or the card, it is a problem with some settings in this computer. Internet explorer, google chrome, and firefox all fail to see the CAC Card on this computer. Can you please help fix how my computer will detect the card
    itself?

The card reader i'm using is called "Stanley Global Technologies" and in Device Manager it shows as Smart Card Reader- "Alcor Micro USB Smart Card Reader".

    Thanks!
