Windows 10: Can anyone tell me how to fix frequent lag spikes?

Basically my laptop keeps doing this thing where it sometimes slows down to a halt for a few seconds and the sound distorts and I don't know why.

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.

Frequent lag spikes on wifi connectivity

I was recently forced to switch from ethernet cable to a wifi connection.

At ethernet connection i had no issue of ping spikes but now in wifi im experiencing frequent lag spikes from 100ms-300ms.

I have already tried resetting the TCP/IP, disabling auto turn off of WiFi device, reconfiguring TCP/IP, disabling wlan autoconfig but to still no solution has come up to my problem.
