  1. Can chkdsk /r ruin an SSD?

I accidentally ran chkdsk /r on my SSD. I know it's not good to do it on an SSD, so I force shut down the computer while it was doing the check. It booted back up but was acting weird, so I restarted it. The my PC got caught in a BSOD NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM stop code boot loop. Restart, BSOD, restart, BSOD. Then it did automatic repair, fixed some disk errors which I assumed happened because I forced a shut down and then rebooted again. Bang, now it's working properly I think so far.

Do I have cause for concern? Will my SSD be okay? What should I do if it happens again? How can I check the health of my SSD without chkdsk?

    :)

CHKDSK /R Bad Sector check on windows 10 SSD

I just ran a chkdsk /f /r to check for BAD sectors on my ssd but on restart chkdsk quicky went to 100%, and finished in about 2 seconds!

Also some threads on the internet are saying that running chkdsk /r on an ssd can damage it? is this true?

Does Windows 10 automatically detect an SSD and not run the bad sector check hence it runs quickly when you schedule the scan?

  3. CHKDSK ruined my drive

chkdsk destroyed the file system integrity on the fresh-from-the-shop new drive containing a raw copy of the old failing one. There were few timeout errors in phase 4, but they were likely a system glitch or something. Moreover, chkdsk stopped with two strange
errors which I suppose were internal crash reports.

Now I ran CHKDSK /X /F /V /R /B on another partition, and result was the same: few errors during step 4, two final chkdsk errors (supposedly crash reports), and damaged file system integrity at the end.

I think something is wrong with CHKDSK /R /B.

Now I started raw copying again and will avoid this mode next time.

    CHKDSK ruined my drive

Chkdsk did not ruin your drive. It was badly flawed before you ran chkdsk. When Windows reports bad blocks then your best course of action is to replace the disk. Why? Because the bad blocks are caused by flaws on the disk platter surfaces and they are
likely to spread - as happened in your case.
