Can helper use quick assist if granted full control when pc is off and how do I really confirm that he disconnected after helping me and also am I assured that he can't access my device again

We would like to clarify what the previous Community Forum Moderator suggested. Once you follow the steps that he provided, you will need to click on
Get Assistance, and then follow the instructions in
Quick Assist.The 6-digit code will be provided by the one who will assist you. He/She should choose
Give assistance instead to be able to get the 6-digit code.

You will request assistance from a helper (either a friend or Microsoft Support). Both start Quick Assist and the helper sends a security code to the person who needs help. The person who needs help enters the code and gives permission to the helper,
who is then able to take control of that person’s computer and provide assistance over the remote connection.

File Association Helper in Startup

You can uninstall File Association Helper in less than 5 minutes. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1 — Uninstall File Association Helper via Control Panel

Simply go to Start > type Control Panel > double click the first result to launch Control Panel.
Then go to Uninstall a program > locate File Association Helper in the list and select it
Select Uninstall > wait until Windows completely removes FAH from your PC.
Restart your PC.
Step 2 — Clean the Registry Editor

Now that you removed the program, you also need to remove any traces or file changes associated with it. To do that, you need to open the Registry Editor.

Go to Start > type “regedit” > launch the Registry Editor
Locate the following keys and delete them:
KEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareFile Association Helper
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareFile Association Helper

Step 3 — Check all the hidden files and folders

File Association Helper may have left behind various hidden files and folders. In order to completely remove the software, you can also need to delete these files. Here’s how to do that:

Simply go to Start > type Control Panel > double click the first result to launch Control Panel. On Windows 10, you can also type “Show hidden files and folder” in the search box. Then simply check Show hidden files, folders and drives and jump straight to step number 3.

Go to Folder > select Show Hidden Files and Folders
Locate the following folders:
Crogram FilesFile Association Helper
C*Biggrinocument and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataFile Association Helper
C*Biggrinocuments and Settings%USER%Application DataFile Association Helper

4. Delete them and then restart your PC.

Step 4 — Empty Temp Folder

The final step is to clean the Temp folder where all the temporary files are stored. To empty the folder, go to Start and type the %temp% command.

This will open the Temp folders. You can now empty them. If the system displays an error message when deleting some files, leave them. The files might be in use by Windows services or some running software.

Step 5 — Use a dedicated tool to remove software leftovers

After you performed all the steps listed above, you have removed 99.9% of all the files and folders left behind by File Association Helper. However, there may be a few file that escaped your scrutiny. In order to make sure that you have removed all of them, you can also use a dedicated software uninstaller.

These applications are specially designed to remove the selected application along with all of its files and registry entries. As a result, the application will be completely removed from your PC.

There are many great uninstaller tools available on the market, but the best are IOBit Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller so feel free to try any of these tools.

 

Quick Assist security issue, MS Account Privacy history keeps open access

Hi Mark, I wanted to let you know that we do indeed see your feedback and take your concern very seriously (and I sincerely thank you for submitting it through Feedback Hub).

I completely understand your concerns around privacy and security. That being said, Quick Assist is not capable of allowing anyone to connect to your device without direct action from you (you entering the code). Once a session has ended, there is no ability for anyone to use Quick Assist to then connect back to your device. When you click "Leave" in Quick Assist this also ends the session, and again no one can then connect back to your device.

Quick Assist uses a security code that expires after 10 minutes, and once that code has been used, it can not be used again.

There are three situations where a "reconnection" could happen:

1. During a session the device needed to be restarted. Once the device restarts it will connect back to the same session.
   
   1. The time window to allow this is 60 minutes. If the reboot happens outside of this timeframe from when it was started, it will fail because of this built in timeout.
      
   2. The Helper will have the same level of control that you originally granted them (Full Control)
      
2. Either the Sharer (you) or the Helper clicks "Pause"
   
   1. Whoever pauses (Helper or Sharer) has to be the same person to un-pause the session
      
3. Crashed app or interrupted network connection
   
   1. If the connection is poor or the app crashes then it will try to reconnect back to the same session to try to get you back to your Helper.
      

If a connection is happening outside of the above scenarios, then it is not happening through Quick Assist. I don't know who you spoke with about some sort of privacy or account setting, however this is not accurate information in regards to Quick Assist (my area of expertise).
