  1. Can I allow access to a PC on my home network without that PC having a password?

Small home network, connected by cable and wifi. 2 PC's on Win 10, one laptop on Win 10, a tablet and our phones. FTTC (65 down, 30 up) internet. In the UK.

Currently my PC (Win 10 Pro) has a password because I share a drive on it to the others. The only way to allow the others to connect was to do this, the operating system wouldn't allow it otherwise.

I've bought an M2 1Tb drive (Happy Christmas to me) and will be installing it this coming weekend and obviously I'll be reinstalling Win10 on it. I don't want the expected fast load times ruined by having to stop and type a password, even if it's as simple as "a". Is there any way to allow me to share a drive on this PC without a password? Maybe altering the registry?

    Thanks.

  2. Error: Windows cannot access \\PC-Name, you do not have permission to access this pc. Contact your network administrator to request access, while trying to access one PC from another over network

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while accessing one PC from another PC over the network. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Are the entire PC’s running Windows 10 1809 build version?
    2. Have you tried accessing the PC using IP address of the PC?
    3. Are the PC’s connected to domain network?

I certainly appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve the issue by performing certain troubleshooting steps.

However, I would suggest you to refer the suggestions by

  3. BrezHan Win User
Allowing Windows 7 networked PC access to Windows 10

I have a Win10 PC on a home network with a Win7 PC that I would like to give access. After sharing folders, the networked Win7 PC gets challenged with a "Enter Network Password" box, and attempts to login from the domain named for the Win7 PC computer name.

I can find no way to give "specific user" access to "Domain\User" as the Win10 PC complains that user not found.

Network discovery is on, file/printer sharing is on.

How can I allow access to a certain PC/User on my private network?

Issues while accessing PC over the network

    Hi Cliff,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues while accessing the PC’s over the network. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below.

    1. Have you connected both the laptops to the same network through which the PC is connected?
    2. Which build version of Windows is installed on the PC’s?

    Refer the article
Which version of Windows operating system am I running?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to try connecting the PC to the main router and see if you are able to access the laptops.

If you are able to access the laptops, then we need to configure the network settings once again. You can refer the suggestions by
