Windows 10: can i backup hyper v vm, just copying folder using vss?

hello. i have backup solution that can only backup files and folders. vss option exist. so can i backup hyper v vm folder using this method? or i should only use hyperv v vsswriter? using wbadmin for conistency?

My backup provider says we need to delete the registry key for Hyper-V IC Software Shadow Copy Provider

We have been having failed backups due to a VSS error on our VMs (Hyper-V). Our backup provider - BackupAssist - determined that their software uses a specific backup provider, and that the Hyper-V IC Software Shadow Copy Provider is interfering with our backup. Their solution is to delete the registry key for the Hyper-V IC Software Shadow Copy Provider.

What sort of repercussions could follow the deletion of this provider (besides the typical registry modifications issues)?

 

Cannot copy and paste into Hyper-V VM

I cannot copy and paste anything into a Hyper-V Window 10 Pro VM. Not text. Not files.

I have made sure that the Guest Services was checking in the VM settings and that Use enhanced session mode is check in Hyper-V Settings.

 

Unable to Import a Hyper-V VM

I built a VM using

Hyper-V Manager: 10.0.26200.5001

Mangement Consol 3.0

Version 24H2 (OS Build 26200.5001)

I am unable to import it onto another system with:

Hyper-V Manager: 10.0.22621.1

Management Console 3.0

Version 23H2 (OS Build 22635.3566)

When I navigate to the folder with the VM, it show no VMs available.

Is there a way to import the VM built using the newer Hyper-V manager version into the older Hyper-V manager? If not, how do I update the Hyper-V Manager to the same version as the version of Hyper-V Manager that I built the VMs with?
