Windows 10: Can I boot into safe mode like this? When I press 4 or F4 in my keyboard it won't boot into...

unable to boot into safe mode

i have been hijacked, virus, everything. so i was told to boot into safe mode then run all of my virus and spyware scans. well i cant boot into safe mode, i turn off the computer using the power button, wait 30 seconds, press power again, as soon as i press that i press F8 and hold it down, i continue to hold it down and it just continues to go into normal windows boot....then i tried the same again, did the same. tried doing the same but this time "tapping" the F8 key, does the same...is there another way to boot into safe mode?

Hi all,

I need to boot into Safe Mode in order to uninstall some AMD GPU drivers using DDU. I understand the steps to boot into Safe Mode.

The issue I'm having, is that I get as far as Startup Settings, restart, and then I can't use my keyboard. I've tried using both the regular mechanical keyboard that I use daily that connects via USB, as well as a Ps/2 keyboard that I have laying around.
Neither of them want to work when I'm in that dialogue menu. I can't press 4 or F4 or even using the keypad!

If anyone knows why this issue may be occurring, I would love some guidance. Thanks.

This issue occurs when there are broken components on the boot configuration data of your system. To troubleshoot your boot issue, we suggest that you boot in safe mode through the Windows Recovery Environment option. To do this, follow these steps:

• Turn on your computer. When the Windows logo appears, unplug and replug the device. Perform these steps three times.
  
• On the fourth instance, turn on your device without unplugging it. The Windows Recovery Environment window will appear.
  
• On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.
• Click Advance options.
• Click Startup Settings.
• Click Restart.
• Once your computer restarts, you will see a list of options. Press the
  F4 key to start your computer in safe mode.
