    Can I change the Open With names in the list?


    Hi, I have a CAD program that uses a licence free viewer and a full licence version to open the same files. I have the viewer set as my default as we have floating licences not enough for everyone in the department to use full at the same time. Unfortunately in the Explorer 'Open with' list both the viewer and full program appear with the same name and icon, so I can't tell which is which. Windows moves them around based on which one I've used most recently, so I can't just learn the order. I also have an older version installed with the same name, but at least that does have a different ico

    If you desire a name change please do the following:

    • Ask yourself if you really need a name change.
    • Make sure you have a good reason.
    • Know what you want your new name to be before you request a name change.
    • Send Urlyin a PM containing a decent explanation of your reason as well as your desired name.

    We appreciate you getting back to us. To change the cmd name, we suggest that you follow this steps:

    • Open a Command Prompt (Adimin) window: Win+X, A, Alt+Y
    • Then run the following command to change your computer name to Donner: WMIC ComputerSystem where Name=COMPUTER-NAME call Rename Name=NewName
    • Reboot your PC.
    • Try to run ipconfig / all command, you should find that the Host Name in Windows IP Configuration list has been changed to the new name.

    Keep us posted with the result.

    Context Menu - Open With (Windows Suggested List)

    OS: Windows 10 Pro x64 22H2
    Diagram 'A' shows Windows' suggested programs
    Diagram 'B' shows the extended list

    I have been trying to edit the context menu's "Open with" list of Windows' suggested programs for the .mp3 extension.
    I'm not talking about the extended list, but rather the programs that first appear 'before' the "choose another app" option.
    If you look at Diagram 'A' you will see the preliminary list generated by Windows, this is the list I am looking to modify.
    I have an .mp3 editor named Goldwave that I use for editing audio files, however, I do not want to change the preliminary program Windows uses to open .mp3s. My .mp3s should remain assigned to Winamp Player.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
