Windows 10: Can I change the spacing between the start button and shortcut icons on my taskbar?

I have a very specific use case: I have a small tablet which sits under my monitor (shows some stats I need to be able to see at all times). It very slightly obscures the area where my shortcuts sit so I can't see the blue highlight when one is open.

What I'd ideally like to do is move them to the right a bit so they are clear of it. Alternatively, is there some way I can put some 'fake' icons there which are transparent and, thus, push the proper ones further over.

I guess I could turn Cortana back on so the search box sits there but I hate it.

Blank shortcut icon GPU-Z

I know I am quite late but as I was scrolling through I saw this post which happened to one of friend too. This sometimes happens with Windows. Usually a reboot will solve the problem. However if this doesn't, try setting the icon for the shortcut(right-click pinned icon, right-click program, left-click properties, select "change icon...") or refreshing it by switching to a different icon, applying it, and then reverting back to the original icon. Remove the shortcut from the taskbar and replace it with the start menu shortcut or simply drag the .exe file to the taskbar.

I should add that the shortcut icons on the desktop are ok - it's only the icons in the taskbar that appear incorrect.

Also, the desktop icons were first created by dragging from the apps list that appears when you left click the start button.

You can change the icon taskbar size following these steps:

Please follow the below steps:

-Logon to your computer as administrator, click on empty space on the Taskbar.

-Select Configuration Taskbar, and Start Menu Properties window pops-up.

-Select use small taskbar buttons to decrease the size of icons.
