Windows 10: Can I click and drag users folder?

    Can I click and drag users folder?


    I've just built a new PC and am migrating from my old drive to a new drive. However, during the process I made an error and corrupted my old drive so it is no longer bootable. However, when running Windows on my new drive, the old drive appears normally as Local Disk D:.Since my old drive isn't bootable, I believe copying and pasting from one drive to another is my best bet. I'm unsure how this will affect the machine, especially the "users" folder. My new drive already has a Users folder with a different name. What will happen if I copy/paste all my files from one Users folder to another? C

    Hi Charles,

    the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

    In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

    Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

    My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

    Why does Windows 10 exit to parent folder up on dragging a file to a network folder?

    Can you provide some reproduction steps so I can test it out in the lab? Correct me if I have this wrong:

    • Open network folder ( \\server\folder\subfolder )
    • Take a file from desktop, and drag it into the openeed folder
    • The opened folder will jump up a level (to the "folder" in this example) after releasing

    Is that right?

    Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

    No tried that.

    Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

    any more suggestions
