Cloning to a new computer and licensing

Hi. I built a computer for an old teacher of mine about 8 years ago. It is actually still running but I want to build him a new machine to be sure no glitches. I am almost finished and plan to visit him next week to clone his existing drive to a new one
and install the new one in the new machine. I would like him to keep the old machine for kids to use, etc. until the machine gives up the ghost. My question is this. I want to be properly licensed and I am assuming that I will need to buy another Windows
10 install license. That is perfectly fine. But my question is: should I clone the old drive to an empty new SSD drive and do the initial install on the new machine with the current Windows package and purchase a new license online after the new machine
is up? That seems to be the logical way to do this but wanted to ask. Have cloned many drives before but trashed the old machine. Am keeping it here. The Windows install on the old machine is not an OEM copy but is retail.

Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Moving to SSD. Clone or not to clone?

it's not a question of the license having an issue, it's the hard disk.

going from platter to ssd via clone is troublesome.

however if the alternative is to buy a new copy of windows, for sure your
first choice should be cloning. it's at least worth trying, to save the $$$ *Smile Can I clone my SSD and not have to buy a new Windows license on the new drive? :)

Can I clone my SSD and not have to buy a new Windows license on the new drive?

    Unable to clone new ssd

Had Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on my desktop. Took the free upgrade to Windows 10 from Microsoft. Somehow part of Windows 10 got installed on my F: drive which is a secondary HDD on my computer. I've just installed a new SSD drive and wanted to clone
my current C: drive to the new SSD. SSD won't boot and I assume not all of the Windows files are there. How can I migrate them back to the C: drive.
