Windows 10: Can I connect an old hdd on my new pc?

So my pc has windows 10 and an ssd of 480gb, and i want to connect and old hddit was from my old pc which has windows 7 installed and some other programs. I want to access some files from the old drive mainly photos and maybe clean the disk and use it as extra storage. Is it as simple as plugging the drive on the motherboard and accessing the files from file explorer? Or do I have to do something else because there will be 2 disks with 2 different os's? I have seen many strangers on the internet suggest buying a usb adapter and using it as an external drive, but i don't want to do that.

PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval

• Install system in case
  • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
• Turn on PC
• setup HDD
• run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
  • run realtemp at the same time

• While in Prime95 test
  • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
  • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
  • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!

What do you guys think??
