Can I Disable video content on web pages?

I am on a metered internet connection with a limited amount of monthly data, so I get disgusted every time I want to read an article on a web page and a video starts downloading automatically. I want to read the article and not watch some stupid video, so I was wondering if it was possible to disable videos from starting automatically and wasting precious data. Any help would be appreciated!

    :)

  2. Any way to have native web browser use Realplayer for video?

I am using an n79, and recently, video content (such as youtube) formerly viewable directly in the built-in web browser now appears as a black video frame, with no content. I know I can use the google youtube app, but that does not open specific URLs; it
can only be used to search youtube. Opera Mini also does not show the videos, however, Opera Mobile does invoke Realplayer, which can open the videos. Is there any way to set the built-in browser to open Realplayer as well, or, better yet, set it to open
videos once again on its own?

    Thanks.

  3. E52 web browser problem

The web browser in my E52 is unable to view video content in most web sites. It just can view videos on Youtube main site.

When I use the E63 web browser it works great for the same sites that E52 failed to view.

Please try this link for an example and tell me if u can view the video or just a blank area

Please share your ideas about this problem

it may be a flash lite issue for this device?

That has to be the most ironic webpage I've seen in a while.

It's an article on how to stop videos auto-playing, with the author saying that he sympathises with how annoying they are and then proceeds to give instructions on how to disable Adobe Flash. Yet in the top-right of the article there's an auto-playing HTML5 How-To video. You couldn't make it up.

I followed those instructions for both IE and Chrome and it works like a charm! Thank you very much adamf! *Thumbs

Yes, I noticed that as well. But hey, as long as the instructions worked I can live with it. *Biggrin

Only partially. You now have to put up with an annoying message appearing at the bottom of your screen, which should be reserved for important notifications only. And if you disable Flash completely, that website will play a HTML5 video that you can't prevent auto-playing.

It's possible to use ActiveX Filtering white-lists to stop websites doing it with Flash and you won't have that annoying message appearing at the bottom of the screen all the time, however there needs to be a way to stop HTML5 video from auto-downloading and auto-playing in Internet Explorer as well. And it also needs to extend to auto-downloading and auto-playing of GIF files as well, due to the latest trend of websites using animated GIF's for video, which absolutely kills bandwidth too. The Imgur RSS feed for example is unusable now due to all the video GIF's sucking ridiculous amounts of bandwidth.

Options of the past such as disabling 'Play animation in webpages' isn't adequate as it's either on or off, so personally I think the IE team need to introduce some sort of click-to-play feature to stop websites forcing auto-play content on end users and killing their bandwidth.

If you use Firefox you could set the following entry to False in 'about:config'

    ... almost foolproof.

Actually the message at the bottom of the screen to allow the video to play is just what I wanted. That way I can play the video, or simply close the message. What I didn't want is for it to play automatically.

Websites have definitely become bandwidth bandits and it gets worse all the time. If I had access to an un-metered ISP out here in the country I would definitely sign up for it.

That would be great, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for MSFT to do me any favors.

My main browser is Comodo Dragon, which is based on Chrome. IE is only secondary.
