Windows 10: Can I do 4K?

I have (well had) three 3GB GTX 580's and I sent one to EVGA to get a replacement and they are sending me a 4GB GTX 960. My remaining two 3GB GTX 580's are faster than the single GTX 960. Can I keep using my two 3GB GTX 580's in SLI and then just output 4K using the 4GB GTX 960? So 580's for the graphics and the 960 to output 4K (Via HDMI 2.0).

I am contacting you because I would like to express my dissatisfaction that I have with micirosoft Spain.

My name is <personal information removed>. I've always been a big fan of Microsoft and Nokia so when I heard that'nokia going to be bought by Microsoft I found the perfect combination. Currently I have a PC with Windows 8.1, a PC with Windows 10
preview, surface 3 DC-19, DT-901, ws-10, MD-100w, lumia lumia 920 and lumia 930. Also, my family has lumia and Windows tablet because I I recommended it. Also I use daily in my work Microsoft offices, skype, OneDrive and onenote. I think that I will not buy
anything more than Microsoft because of the service received

Two years ago I bought a lumia 920 but from the first time smart phone started giving problems (GPS. Proximity sensor, micro, camera, flash light) so I had to go several times a nokia care Barcelona. They were solving problems unless the GPS and also workers
never gave me any documentation because they were telling me not to foul because the the 920 lumiawas under warranty.

As I needed the GPS I decided to buy the lumia 930 and I gave the lumia 920 to my wife. After a few months the lummia 930 began to peel off the screen so I went back to nokia care and worker I was told that 20 minutes would be solved. El worker knew me because
of the numerous times I take the lumia 920 and he asked for GPS (lumia 920). I replied that was the same or worse but I already took for lost. Then the worker asked us to review the lumia 920 to check the warranty. As the guarantee was active he asked permission
to send to the laboratory in Madrid. I asked him why he had not done it before, but in the end make a backup copy and give him.

Last 20 minutes I picked up my 930 lunia and the worker informed me that change the screen but it did not give me any invoice. When I got home I checked that did not work the Wireless charging and I had to go back. When I give my 930 lumia worker informs
me that all was well and that the problem was that in the magazine DT-901.

After a week I get a call to inform me that the lumia 920 had problems with the motherboard and had to pay € 140. As the mobile was not new and also my wife did not use the GPS decided not to accept the budget, preferring to buy a Lumia 830 for my wife.
A few days later I went to collect the lumia 920 but when I go to use it and make a call I cannot hear to the other person. Again I call nokia care and workers answered me to not take the 920 lumia because the store will close forever.

That's when begins the worst, I have to call Microsoft Madrid for help on everything that has happened to me and also tell my lumia 930 is starting to fail wiffi and camera.

The person who serves me he didnt try to understand my problem any time and he didnt try to listen me. he just tells me that the lumia 920 came to the lab and so spoiled they returned me. With much I told him the lumia 920 was working but now it not work
anything. Finally he said that it would consider my case and would call me back.

Days passed but no one contacted me nor emails went unanswered. After several calls I finally answered me and he repeated the same "as the lumia 920 will get spoiled." When I asked him what was happening with the lumia 930 I answered it mailed to madrid
and that they reviewed.

We affirm that the lumia 930 was working properly unless the camera, wifi and inalmbrica charge and they had to assure me that when I had qe delvovieran function as well or better not happen to me the same as the 920. lumia been more than 10 days and I have
not heard from my lumia 930.

I do not understand how the person who checked me he did not make the slightest effort to listen to my problem. All I wanted is to give me the lumia 920 as I deliver, plus I wanted to inform you that my lumia 930 was starting to give me trouble, but nobody
listened to me

For all this and my regret micirsoft fails to buy products.

No, you can't SLI such different GPUs.

 

Hey Mike! Thanks for the reply! I'm not wanting to do SLI with the 960. I want to have my 960 separate. 580's in SLI, then the 960 just for the 4K output and as a PhysX processor.

 

Wow, never tried that but it's sure you'll end up with two different display sets on two monitors. Now if you could swap those two 580s for one 960 even another make you'd be sitting pretty. Physics is largely a software based so good CPU should cover that.

 

Got my 960 and when I try hooking it up the way I described I get no signal. So I went to just one 4GB 960. Very pleased with the results! It's in some ways faster than my two 580's. With the same settings in GTA V (1080P) I would get 60FPS in the city and 20FPS outside the city. My 960 does a consistant 40-50FPS everywhere in the game. So somethings are faster and some aren't. Kinda odd. Though I'm very satisfied with it, all I play 90% of the time is Rocksmith 2014 and it has no problem going 4K 60FPS (with every possible driver enhancement) so I'm good! Plays all my games better than a console would so I cannot complain!

SLI can be trouble and it's never ideal, that's why what's on paper doesn't necessarily mean in practice. Dx12 is promising to reconcile SLI with different GPUs, just got to wait for games to start using it.

 

Just bought a Monster Black Platinum Ultimate HD HDMI Cable so I could do 12bpc on my TV, but the option doesn't show up in the Control Panel. Any idea why? I returned my $30 4K HDMI for a $150 HDMI so I could go to 12bpc. Worked at 1080P. Old HDMI was 18GBPS this one is 27.5GBPS so it should have no trouble with bandwidth.

 

Does the GTX 960 support 12bpc at UHD resolution? (Not a rhetorical question.)

Just checked. The choices I get at UHD with a Titan X are 8 and 10bpc, over a DP connection. (60 Hz frame rate.)

I'd say something snarky about you being taken by a $150 HDMI cable, but I've (mostly) wasted a bit more than that with a Titan X.

 

As far as I'm aware yes the GTX 960 should support 4K 12bpc. Don't know why it won't show up in the Control Panel. I'd be happy even with just 10bpc, bought a Nano Crystal TV and would like to take advantage of the extra detail.

Ha ha, yeah don't blame you for wanting to say something about buying a $150 HDMI. Was told that I'm stuck at 8bpc unless I get a faster HDMI and I was only paying $50 of the cost so I was like why not just get the best I can then. I got a $150 HDMI and a $200 GPU because I don't game much, just use my PC for Photoshop CS6 and as a giant picture frame with my 55" TV. So I'm more concerned about quality than performance. Titan Z would be awesome but I'd rather spend my cash on a new sound system that I'd use daily.
