Windows 10: Can I fresh-install Windows 10 on a Windows 7 Home Premium OEM key, and if so, how?

So my grandma roped me into helping her with her PC and, after some convincing, I got her a slightly faster CPU (Phenom II 840 instead of Athlon II 220), an SSD, and ditched her horribly outdated Win7 Service Pack 1 for Win10 and have been trying to get everything installed. Unfortunately, the key on the side of the box, that for SOME REASON seemingly the entire internet says "yeah, that'll work to activate it" DOESN'T ACTIVATE IT.

And now, from googling my issues, somewhere around March of this year all the results quietly shift from "of course it'll work, everybody knows that!" to "YOU FOOL! THAT NEVER WORKED, WHY WOULD YOU THINK IT DID!?!?" and now I'm irrationally angry that Google lied to me.

Is there some secret way of making this work, maybe involving in-place upgrade using the original untouched Win7 install on the hard drive (10 is on the SSD) or a specific Win10 feature update I need, or is it hopeless and I just have to use regedit to hide the watermark so she doesn't ask?

Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.
