  1. Can I get creators version??

Hi. I have been a Mac OS guy for a long time. I've become frustrated, and I think Apple stopped innovating. I'm a creative, and I can't believe that apple does not have a convertible laptop. I can't believe I can't use my Apple Pencil with my MacBook Pro.

So, I'm making the switch. I just ordered an HP Spectre 360x 15". But I have to say, windows scares me. I have memories of blue screens and missing drivers, printers that won't install. I hear it's better now (it's better, right??? Tell me that driver thing is a thing of the past!!!).

I am extremely confused with the many versions of windows. I ordered the laptop with the professional version of windows (after researching it today, turns out I didn't need it at all. Home would do what I want). Oh well. It's already shipped. Still, as a creative, I think I need the creative version, whatever that means. It's not really clear to me.

Can someone help me understand this multiple version thing, and can I get the functionality in the creative?

Thank you! I'm a PC now.

    :)

  2. I deleted all my important files

I deleted all my important files and now there is no way I can access or use settings. I did this because I was trying to reset my PC and it said it needed more space. So I deleted everything I could. I also can't get to file explorer now.

    Can I get creators version??

1st off JonnyVermont Welcome to TenForums *Smile You will find many folks on here that can help you with your Windows 10 Pro.

Once you get your new HP Your Windows 10 will update itself once your connected to the internet. You will also have lots of programs already installed by HP that you most likely don't need or will want. HP and all the other company's do this, we call it Junk ware. *Smile Best thing to do is just wait until you get your new machine, and then we can go from there. Again Welcome to Tenforums. *Smile

One thing you SHOULD do after you get your new machine is make complete image backups, on a regular schedule thou, this is for insurance incase you remove or install something that effects your computer. You should install a program lots of us use here called Macruim Reflect Free version. And make a backup image on your new computer as soon as possible. Don't use Windows 10 backup, as it is not very good at all.
Macrium Software | Your Image is Everything
If at all possible, its best to keep all your image backups on a separate drive. External drive preferred. Then make a Macrium Rescue disk on a USB drive, incase down the road you need to restore a saved backup. All this can be explained in detail at a later time. This is just a quick information tip right now.

Hi, In more than 18 months of using various major builds on Win 10 I think I've had one blue screen, and that was a bug in a commercial security program they quickly resolved, and one other recently. I use my laptop a lot.

As your PC is new, you shouldn't have problems with drivers, although it's true a few people upgrading find they have to use an older version of a driver than that MS supplies.

The older build of Windows is the Anniversary Update (or AU); the current on is the Creator's Build or Creator's Upgrade or CU; coming in October is the next major build, the Autumn or Fall Creator's Build (weird names they come up with).

Each major build is effectively a windows installation process, keeping everything but changing a few settings.

Between major builds are updates- and getting control of these using Active Hours and (as you have Pro) Defer Feature Upgrades is really important. I find setting updates to 'Notify only' very useful.

Note that System Restore is off by default and turned off with each major build.

Windows can be used in traditional desktop mode- i.e. you download and install whatever you want from the internet.

It also (from Win 8) includes universal apps - these are not installed in the same way and do not use exe or dll files or the registry and can only be found from the Store. Typically they are more limited than 'desktop' programs, but graphically slicker, and you have far less control over where they store data.

Start menu: the default start menu with tiles and a list of programs down the left side is very limited and awkward to work with. It should be fine for a smaller number of programs but can't cope properly with a more deeply structured start menu and doesn't support drag 'n drop in the left column.

This is easily dealt with if you need to- install the excellent highly configurable intuitive Classic Shell menu (free).

Start by securing your system as early as possible by using disk imaging, and continue to do that routinely - e.g. Macrium Reflect (free) as @OldMike65 has said.

This just can't be stressed enough @JonnyVermont if you don't learn anything right away about your Windows 10 Pro, you do NEED to learn about making Image Backups !!!! This should be the 1st thing you should learn and do on a regular basis. Most important Step in learning and keeping your Windows 10 Pro in good condition now and in the future. Backup....backup...and backup....So many people Don't do this, and then end up here asking how they can fix their computer. When if they had done their image backups like they should have, could fix their problems a lot easier if they had just done regular image backups. We have excellent tutorials on how to use Macrium Reflect for your new PC also, that you can read and learn about.

  8. Can I get creators version??

Microsoft changed the way updates worked, and they added a cute naming scheme. Creators Update has nothing to do with creativity. Nothing at all. It's just a cute name.

When you get your new computer, you'll have the latest that the maker installs. Will it be Creators Update/CU? Maybe. But if not, you will someday get CU when that update gets fed to you automatically.

Back to your original question. The answer is: forget about it. It doesn't matter at all.

To you other point about Home vs. Pro. Few home users have any need for Pro. Its features are meant for corporate users. There's no harm in having Pro. You're just paying for extras that you likely won't need. And likely won't even be able to use. But as you said, too late now.

Having Pro is helpful in controlling updates and upgrades; using the group policy editor there can help. But some of those things can be done using Winaero's free tweaker, or registry edits - some reg files are offered in tutorials on this site.

Tip: the nomenclature for Windows 10 is Version and Build number, latest for the CU is Version 1703 Build 15063.608. The new version within a few weeks will be 1709, now seeing it on Insider Preview/Beta version with Build 16288.xxx.

Also, there is the MCT/Media Creation Tool that can allow downloading and creating a bootable USB drive or save as an .iso file usable in creating a bootable DVD/exact copy of the original disc.

I am running Win10 Home and Pro, Win10 Insider Preview and Win7 computers along with a MacBook Pro and Linux Mint computers. Another tip: I've found formatting of portable drives as exFAT allows use on all my computers [just as FAT32 is] but it works with storing of files larger than 4GB [limit of FAT32]. I've not found a good NTFS app for my Mac [latest version is macOS Sierra].
