Can I get Movie Maker (or something similar) for Win10?

I recently bought a laptop with Win10 installed on it. My previous laptop was a Win7 laptop bought over 5 years ago and it had a video editing program called Movie Maker on it. Now I don't have that anymore. Is there a way to get it? I looked it up and found a site that has it for a free download, but it specifies that it's for Windows Vista and 7 and XP users. Would it be safe to download it and use it on Win10? Windows Movie Maker - Download

As for that link, I think I'd have to download it from somewhere else since this one just keeps having me click one thing after another and never actually lets me download. But I'd still be interested in getting Movie Maker. My current Win10 OS doesn't have any video editing features at all that I'm aware of.

    :)

How can I make movies from my camera on the computer.

On Windows 8.1 I used Microsoft Movie Maker to join my film clips and make home movies. What can I get on Windows 10 that is free and similar to Movie Maker?

  3. DVD MAKER

    Hi,

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community.

To avoid confusion, I suggest you to continue with one thread.

I understand that you have issue with DVD Maker, this feature is not available on Windows 10, you can provide feedback about this in feedback app.

Or you can install Movie Maker, which also provides similar functions as DVD Maker.

Unfortunately it's one of those annoying things that Windows has removed over the years alongside DVD maker and native DVD playback. Not sure why they couldn't of left it in. But a great many users have reported safe installation on Windows 10 so go for it.

Do you know of a good source for it? The link I referred to earlier isn't letting me do the download. Also, Microsoft has it, but they package it up with a bunch of other programs called Microsoft Essentials which has things I don't want.

I also found another site that mentions it, but the only download buttons end up downloading another program called Filmora. Best Video Editing Software for Windows 10

  6. Unfortunately the only source I am aware is the essentials pack. As far as I know you can specify what components you want to install. Personally I have not got it installed because my PC came with some cyberlink suite which caters for DVD authoring and movie editing

Hey, it's funny that you mention that! I have that Cyberlink suite on my computer too and have been wondering what it is and was thinking of getting rid of it. I've been afraid to click on it since I wasn't familiar with it. But you say it can do movie editing. Do you think it's better than Movie Maker was? Can it be installed without other parts of the suite if I don't want anything else?

I haven't had reason to use it much but I've nosed around it. If it's the same suite as mine then it's totally safe, everything opens/works and from what I can see its superior than microsoft's half hearted effort. Everything should all be pre installed. Just ignore its prompt to upgrade as the current version should cater everything you want. It just does quite a bit and as its already on your machine I'd say alot safer than trying out download sites to get movie maker. I'd recommend trying it just see. It will do no harm so you have got nothing to lose by giving it a look. plus of course it gives the much missed native DVD playback back to windows via Power DVD

It's not just a 30 trial version, is it? I was just looking up a review of it and it mentioned that. Some of the other things that were included on my computer were trial versions. I was hoping this would be a free program like Movie Maker was.

  10. Mine wasn't - the physical optical media came with my PC - the only way to find out is to launch it. If it is a trial version then can just uninstall it. However, would expect it be full version as your manufacturer would be pretty lame to of sold you a machine with an optical disc but no software to playback your DVDs / blurays. I know other third party software like VLC can be used but a buyer should get an out of the box solution - not that Microsoft have helped anyone by removing these components natively

I wasn't aware that VLC could be used for video editing (if that's what you meant), but I wouldn't mind giving that a shot. I have it.

  12. Sorry, I don't know if VLC can edit video. Prob shouldn't of mentioned that. I meant that manufacturers selling a machine with optical drives should provide a DVD playback solution pre installed (or physical media) due to Microsoft brutally ripping the native feature out. So a by product on my machine was the inclusion of the cyberlink suite to provide that. I guess many will say it's an easy fix to download VLC but it shouldn't be required. It would be pretty poor if you wanted to play DVDs and you only got a trial version. The fact that the said suite can author DVDs and edit video (plus more) is an added bonus. This is why I doubt yours will be a trial version but the only thing you can do is launch it to see for sure.

Can I get Movie Maker (or something similar) for Win10?

You do not have to install everything. From MS help text

You can choose which programs you want to install or you can install all of them. Windows Essentials 2012 works with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. Windows Essentials includes the following programs:

  15. I didn't realise Windows movie maker was on the store via modern apps. Is it free or do you have to pay for it like Windows DVD player?
