Windows 10: Can I get the Windows 10 "News and interests" widget to show the weather card only?

As of now, if i hover the widget in the taskbar. a popup with all the information is displayed. But i don't want to see all the news and other articles. I just want to see the weather card only.A similar question has already been asked but there is no definitive answer.Hence asking the same question once again.I don't want to disable the widget, i just want to see only the weather card or weather information when I hover.It would also be nice if I can click the widget and the weather app opens. Or the default browser opens with the weather page similar to when i click the weather card.So kindl

News and Interests not showing weather on taskbar

I solved this exact issue on my PC by fixing the location. The widget isn't smart enough to recognize my precise location, but it works with the nearest large city (10 miles away). The widget was working OK before and then a couple of days ago started just showing the icon you show.





Open the widget, click the three dots in the weather area and select Edit and Specify Location. Re-enter your location. If it still doesn't work, try a larger city nearby.

I find the weather icon in the tray useful, but the news feed is sometimes goofy and too slanted for my taste. If we could have just weather only, that would be nice.

 

Does News and Interests widget require MS News and Weather apps?

I have a laptop that doesn't have the Microsoft News or Weather app preinstalled. After installing some Windows updates, I saw that I had the "News and interests" option in the task bar. I have it turned on but the widget hasn't shown up. Turning it off then on again didn't help. Does that widget require the MS News and Weather apps in order to function?

On another PC, I have no issues with that widget appearing but that one has had the News and Weather apps installed before the widget was released.

I only want to see my local weather. I have ZERO interest in any of the news articles and dross that the news and interests widget insists on serving to me - even though I have gone through every news category and blocked them all.

I just want the weather - nothing else.

Is this possible
