Windows 10: Can I have a different default input method from the display language

I just upgraded from Windows 7 and I realized in Windows 10 the input method is bundled with the language. What I want is to display in English but have a default input method of Chinese. But in the language settings they are bundled and when I "move up" the Chinese to the top both the display language and input method are changed. Is it possible to set the default input method and display language separately?

Keyboard layout switches to non-default layout/language after resume from sleep

Thank you for your reply; however, I have already set the default display language and input method as indicated in my original post. The issue is that Windows automatically switches to a non-default input method after resuming from sleep.

 

Want English language system with Japanese IME keyboard

In previous versions of Windows (English), the display language was English and I could have the default input language in Japanese (IME). It seems in Windows 10 that if I want Japanese IME to be the default input language I have to have the display language
also in Japanese.

I'm sure Microsoft wouldn't have done such a ridiculous change such as that because it would have been stupid, right?

Please let me know how I can make Japanese (IME) the default input language with the correct keyboard but keep English as the system display language.

My knowledge of setting it up for Chinese language is limited as I have only done it with European languages. However I don't think it will be much different to European Language (assuming you use standard Roman alphabet keys on a QWERTY keyboard?), where you can add different languages and different keyboards (input) for those languages, depending on what keyboard you're physically typing on.

The settings are in Start > Settings > Time & Language > Region & Language, as follows:




































You will find apps such as the Windows 10 Mail app will spell check what you're typing in the language you have set in the Task Bar. So if the 'Input Indicator' in the Task Bar is set to 'ENG' it will spell check/word suggest in English. If it's set to 'GER' is will spell check/word suggest in German.

 

I am sorry for my late reply. First thank you for your detail explanation. I have managed to follow the instructions but what I really want is to have a English system but with Chinese Input as default input method. Right now I have to use CTRL+SPACE on each startup. It is not difficult but in long run it does create a little bit inconvenience.

In Windows 7 the input method and system language are separated and I would like to know if I can have similar behavior in Windows 10.
