Windows 10: Can I install same copy of windows on its virtual machine, i.e windows in windows?

I have a lot of old school 3rd party software applications and services on my Windows 10 that I need from time to time. The single problem with them is that all this software requires administrative access to install and sometimes for operation too. There's nothing to replace them with more safe alternatives.I have got an idea to run virtual machine, install same version of Windows there and install all this "zoo" there, thus isolating core Windows from possible vulnerabilities. Before I begin, I'd like to know, is it legal and technically possible? Just a clarification: I need Windows,

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Replacing old hard drive, need way to copy Windows installation across

Hey Guys,
What would be the best way of copying/imaging the entire contents of an old system drive over to a replacement hard disk for the same machine? I need to copy the Windows installations and all other data to the new drive, and then format the old drive to use as a backup.
