  1. Can I move a Windows 11 Storage Spaces pool/array to a different machine?

I have a "on the frits" server that is setup running Windows 11 Enterprise with a 5 10TB disk Storage Spaces array in whatever storage spaces uses instead of RAID5. I'm trying to find some info to see if it's possible or rather safe for me to move my Storage Spaces array to a different machine. In doing some research I have found that it's possible to move my array as the "raid" data is actually saved on the disks themselves... but going beyond that I'm just worried if I attempt to move my array and it doesn't work that I'll lose some, if not all my data. With that, what is the process someone

How to remove a bad drive in Windows 10 storage spaces pool

Could someone list the steps involved in replacing a bad drive from a Windows 10 storage spaces pool? I cannot find any info on the Microsoft support site that is specific to Windows 10. Also, could you list the steps to remove a 'good' drive and replace
it with another drive if the process is different?

  3. Storage Spaces USB Drive array - moving to a new computer

Thank you for the detailed response Yuhao. I've already tried different port as well as different cables. At this moment I'm more concerned with why the new Windows 10 machine can't read the Storage Pool created on Windows 11, are they really that different?? do I need to upgrade this machine to Windows 11 for it to be able to read this Storage Pool?

Storage Spaces USB Drive array - moving to a new computer

You don't necessarily need to upgrade your Windows 10 machine to Windows 11 to read the Storage Pool created on Windows 11. However, there might be some compatibility limitations or differences in the Storage Spaces versions between the two operating systems that could be causing the issue. Ensure that the necessary drivers for the Mediasonic enclosure are installed on your Windows 10 computer. Visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers or software specific to the enclosure for Windows 10.

If the drives are recognized in Disk Management but not accessible, it's possible that the Storage Spaces configuration metadata is preventing access on the Windows 10 computer. In such cases, you might need to import the storage pool on the new computer. Remember to make a backup before doing so.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, you can try connecting the Mediasonic enclosure to another Windows 10 machine to see if it recognizes and allows access to the Storage Pool. This can help determine if the issue is specific to your Windows 10 machine or a more general compatibility problem.

If you continue to experience difficulties, it would be advisable to reach out to Mediasonic support for further assistance. They can provide specific guidance and troubleshoot the issue based on their expertise with the enclosure and its compatibility with different operating systems.
