Can I neglect absence of the Win10 upgrade icon?

Can I download ISO and go for a clean install anyway?
If needed I could add background history to the icon issue, anyway laptop hardware ought be OK. Newly installed legal Win7x64 Professional is running OK and is fully updated, including separate installations of kb 2952664 and kb 3035583. I´ve read here that Anti-Malware-Bytes may cause problems, so will take it aside. Will my W7 Professional automatically still be available from a new partition?

    :)

  2. Win10 upgrade failed. Can I do a new install of Win10 with my Win7 Pro product key?

The clean install worked just fine using my Win7 Pro product key. For file transfer I used Microsoft OneDrive. I'm waiting for the download to complete now. Very slow....... I probably should have added my Win7 machine to my CrashPlan subscription
and backed up and restored from there. I hope CrashPlan is faster than OneDrive.

  3. Win10 upgrade failed. Can I do a new install of Win10 with my Win7 Pro product key?

I waited several minutes staring at the black screen. Does it really take hours for Win10 upgrade to go from black screen to live?

You can use the Media Creation Tool to upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10:
    Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

What is the question about Windows 7 Professional? The upgrade will upgrade the Windows installation, from inside which you start it. If you start it from inside WIndows 7 Professional, then this Windows 7 Professional will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

You have to do an in place upgrade first and once Windows 10 is activated from the upgrade, then you can do a clean install, but in neither case do you have to wait for the Get Windows 10 icon.

Thank you Joergi and NavyLCDR! I wrote comments for you but accidentally hit the "Close thread button". Excuse me.
I understand your comments. I had thought an ISO on USBstick would need its own booting as primary unit. Now have learned "mount". Worried where my Win7 would end up. Since then I found article by PC Advisor : How to force Windows 10 to update right now - How-To - PC Advisor . So will start the battle.

Also you should make sure that you have a working system image of your current Windows 7 installation before you start.

Or let me put my advices differently today: If you feel really, really lucky do this:

    • Make sure you do not have a backup - backups only waste space.
    • Should the upgrade go through successfully, before doing anything else make sure that you run the Disc Cleanup utility. It is important to use this utility to "Remove system files". This is the safest way to get rid of the "Return to Windows 7" files. Same as above: They are a waste of space.
    • During the Windows Upgrade you will have like an hour or so of time. Use it wisely: Try to remember, if you maybe somewhere for whatever reason still have an older backup of the machine. Since we know backups are superfluous, make sure to erase that backup.

Yeah, these tips may sound stupid or maybe people might think "This is obviously wrong - I will never do that." however, it obviously is not so obvious. I won't link it for you here, but we already had a thread, where someone did exactly the steps above and then found out that for his PC Windows 10 was unusable. Congratulations!
