Windows 10: Can I recover my profile if I reset my State and RefCount to 0 and rebooted before I...

I was forced to do an update in May 2022 and since then my computer reboots to a temp profile. Every time it comes on it prepares windows over and over and over again.I applied a fix in Regedit in September but there was another forced update last night. Today, I reset the values in my profile in …Current Version/Profile List and rebooted BEFORE I renamed the temp file, adding the .bat to that file and removing it from mine.Can I recover my profile and files?

User profile service failed to sign in (refcount file not found)

So the administrator account in my laptop got corrupted for some reason and everytime i tried to sign in it always says "user profile service failed the sign in".

I tried following the steps from https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...rofile-service-failed-the-logon-error-message and i put the laptop in safe mode and managed till step5 till when i was asked to change the value of the
refcount file. I couldnt find the refcount file anywhere in the s-1-5 folder with the corrupted account. I skipped the step and only tried to change the value of the "state" file but it only displayed an error message.

Is there any other way i can recover the corrupted account?

Did you do anything prior to getting this temp profile error that may have affected your "C:\Users\Hidde" profile folder in any way?

For now, let's see if using step 10 in the tutorial to restore the "C:\Users\Hidde" path may help. Be sure to also set the RefCount and State DWORDs to 0 (number zero) as well.

 

Lost all profiles for Thunderbird, Chrome etc after Windows 10 update

After Windows 10 updated it wouldn't let me log in any more. I got an error The User Profile Service service failed the sign-in. User profile cannot be loaded.

I followed steps online to recover it (resetting State to 0 and RefCount to 0) and I can now log in. It had my state at 18948 but it was saying "Welcome..." with a spinner for over and hour so I gave up and changed the state to 0 and then it lets me log it. But maybe this messed up something?

But when I launch all my programs like Chrome and Thunderbird it has none of my configuration. It's treating me like I'm a new user with a brand new profile.

For example, for Chrome when I look at C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default it looks like this has all the history and profile data I want it to use. All the data there looks correct. But when I start Chrome it shows I have no history, no saved passwords, no saved cookies etc - instead it acts like a brand new Chrome install. But I'm confused because this \Default folder has the files that look right. So the same thing is happening with other apps too like I mentioned.

How can I fix this so all my programs have all their settings and options please? Thank you.
