Windows 10: Can I reinstall Windows 10 for free if I roll back to Windows 7?

Windows 10 upgrade began installing on my Windows 7 computer before I could stop the process. I had planned to have a dual boot system with Windows 7 and Windows 10, but I now have just Windows 10 installed.

If I downgrade back to Windows 7, can I reinstall the Windows 10 update (after preparing a new partition for it)?

Also since I've already activated Windows 10, do I still need to install it before July 29?

I had downloaded Windows 10 upgrade When it first came out. After 3-4 days of slow boot time, I rolled back to 8.1 out of frustration. The free download icon is back. Can I download it again? Also any idea why boot time was slower on first attempt? Dell

If you have previously installed Windows 10, and received a digital entitlement, then you can rollback to Windows 7, and reinstall Windows 10 later, even after the July free upgrade offer is over.

 

I am not too sure about that.
If I understand the OP's intention correctly :
The OP wants to keep the Win 7, and reinstall Win 10 in a separate partition, expecting it to be activated by digital entitlement.

From what I understand, that is not how it works.
But then I am likely to understand wrong completely.

I've since seen that I can install a Windows 10 on a second partition while still in Windows 10 and then downgrade existing partition to Windows 7.

I don't see why one couldn't keep a legal copy of Windows 7 and get Windows 10 upgrade on same machine... Would be good to have clarification on that issue though.

You cannot legally have both Windows 7 and Windows 10 installed on the same machine (assuming 10 is an upgrade from that license of Windows 7).

You can erase Windows 10 (or make a backup) and reinstall Windows 7, then later erase Windows 7 and reinstall 10 (or restore from backup). You only have one license for installed instances of Windows, and you can use it for either 7 or 10, but not both at the same time, whether it's on the same machine or different machines.

You need a separate license for both Windows 7 and Windows 10 if you want them both installed at the same time.

This is a different issue of whether or not your Windows 10 will activate if you re-install it. You are entitled to re-install Windows 10 once it's been activated on the same machine as many times as you like, even after July 29th.

Ok just to be sure I got it right, let me repeat as I understand it:

Once Windows 10 is activated, I can uninstall and re-install it multiple times forever on same machine.

Once 30 days have passed, I cannot roll back to Windows 7 without using backup or other recovery software, etc.
